1845 German Day Dresses. This pattern offers several styles for the 1840's, with lots of options. Includes bust sizes 30"-50" and Waist sizes 22" - 42" in one pattern. This pattern is for a variety of 1845 dresses. It is drafted using a German tailor's guide written circa 1843. This style is suitable for the years 1840-1853, and should be worn over several petticoats rather than a hoop. View A has a gathered Fan Front bodice, with a fitted lining and a smooth back. View B has a fitted front with reveres, narrow at the waist and widening out to the shoulders. The bodice can also be left plain if desired. The bodice is fitted in the front with seam from shoulder to front waist, instead of darts. It also has a side, side back, and back seams for a closer fit recommended for the larger German body frame. The waistline is slightly low all around, with a deep point in the front. The full skirt can be attached to the bodice, or can be sewn to a separate waistband. The closure is in the center back, with hooks and eyes. The narrow 2 piece sleeve can also be headed with an optional sleeve cap. Great for Western, Romance Era, Civil War, Belle Epoch periods.

Beware!
I am a professional costume designer and can honestly say that this is a beyond advanced pattern because of the fitting process. I always make a mock up before cutting the actual fabric. Thank god I am a experienced stitcher because the instructions were very convoluted. Also, do not go by the pattern measurements, I made this dress for three different women and on each of them the center back was at least 4 inches or more too small. Also the Side front panel is to be cut on the bias which makes no sense and caused a loose fit. The finished project/s are gorgeous but the skill level to achieve them needs to be high. Please, if you choose to take on this challenge do a muslin mock up first. You may find yourself making a second one and refitting it if you are looking for a perfect fit. I would also try not putting the side front seam on the bias. This is just my professional opinion.

Excellent Quality Reproduction Pattern
I’ve been looking for a mid to late 1840s pattern that offered the option for for both the pleated bodice front or a plain front with reveres and this fit the bit. The directions are thorough and very easy to understand. Great detail is given to explaining the two kinds of piping and where and how to use them which is something other patterns lack. I have made my first mock up and thanks to their custom fitting guidelines it’s been a breeze. I’m looking forward to cutting the fashion fabric soon! Highly recommended pattern for intermediate level and above seamstresses with historical sewing knowledge. Must know basic skills such as gauging and flat lining in order to complete.
