Perfect guide
Exactly what I was looking for. Many illustrations. Lots of examples and explanations. It’s perfect for an old beginner like myself. And the exercises are actually effective for my aches and pains.

Stretching made easy.
I'm 69 and experiencing aches in various joints so I checked this out of my library and found it so useful I bought a copy. The assessment section was helpful if you want to target an area but the program is short enough that I don't mind doing the whole thing most days just to prevent future problems. It really does help my general flexibility and pain when I do it regularly. Of course, then I'm feeling good and slack off until the pain returns and reminds me to get going again!

Works!
When I retired from barbering after nearly 50 years behind the chair, one of the things I took home was a rounded back and a set of painful shoulder joints. When the shoulder ache became enough to make me literally yell or wake me from sleep, or some days even comb my hair, I I decided to see a doctor. Recommendation: a cortisone shot for temporary relief, see a surgeon who will probably cut, that is what they do after all, or try some excersises.I saw Dr. Tieri’s book advised on a medical website , and purchase it at Amazon about a month ago. After reading the book and doing the set of exercises recommended , pictured in the book, I am amazed at the relief to my shoulders.. This morning, my wife looked at me saying, “You can’t believe how your back has straightened .”Yes, I can . It can only be credited to the Doctor’s fine book. I recommend it. Read it fully. Practice the exercise ritual described , and feel the relief iin a few weeks. Am I pain free, not all the , yet. But I am working , sleeping and getting things from the top shelf, which was painfully impossible a month ago.

Very helpful
I love the information in this book. I have read many books in this (stretching/aging/posture) category. This one is the best so far. It goes into the route causes of the pain better than any I have read. The stretches have helped me already and the information on identifying habits that lead to pain has made things clear. I just wish there was a more cohesive chart or poster of the "10 minute routine" that would make it easier to follow and eliminate all the stopping and flipping from page to page all over the book until you get it down.

excellent book for understanding body & improving qual of life
I'm writing this based on what my mom has said about it-- she asked me to help her write a review, as she's not great with computers. This is an exercise book that explains how bodies age and what we can do about it. It talks about stretching and simple muscle exercises, and goes into a lot of detail about how to do each exercise. I knew this was the right book for my mom when I saw the section on the piriformis-- this is an incredibly hard muscle to correct, and I've had problems with it for years. It's small, specific and less well-known, so when I saw this book addressed it in detail, I was sold. Anyone buying this book has to have some dedication to keep themselves in shape-- it's inspiring, but it can't do the work for you. That's why I think the approach it takes of addressing pain, rather than bad fitness or bad posture or any of the other issues its solutions will also resolve, is so genius. It comes from an approach of ending the suffering that occurs as less well-exercised bodies age. It's a really detailed look at how your muscle groups work together and the kinds of problems you run into as you age. My mom told me that actually the biggest motivation that came from this book was giving her a better appreciation for all the work her muscles did and the different types of muscles she had. It's been a huge help to her and I highly recommend for anyone over 50.

The stretches warmed my perpetually cold hands and feet!
I have had perpetually cold hands and feet for decades. After the first time doing the stretches, my hands and feet were warm. If I stop doing them they get cold again. They really do take only 15 minutes. I do the stretches before bed and sleep better on the nights that I do them. The book also includes strengthening exercises that I do sometimes. These have a lot of overlap with things I was already doing.I expect these are a keeper. I find them just as useful now as they were when I started out 6 months ago. I have always been an active person, and they also help with the sore muscles that sometimes result.
