Don't be fooled by the word salsa in the title, this is an awesome little chilli paste that packs a punch. It does contain peanuts which give a nice crunchy texture as well as chilli flakes and seeds in there.You get three jars in the gift box but I'd probably break this set up and gift just one jar in a hamper or the like unless you know someone who likes a serious amount of chillies in their food because even a tiny amount really spices up cooking. I used it to give a kick to a bolognese/ragu pasta sauce but it could be used for so many things. It's a lovely smokey rounded heat with so much depth because of the nuts - I really enjoyed the flavour.I will definitely be buying this paste again, it really is very tasty.

Mexican salsa macha can vary depending on the combination of ingredients. Sometimes it's more like a spiced chunky peanut butter. other times it's like a chilli sauce with peanuts. This Gran Luchito version is more like the latter. I like spice so I did find this not to be as spicy hot as was warned, but it worked really well as a condiment either way! I had it instead of sweet chilli sauce alongside some roasted root vegetables which was a real winner. I also stirred some into a tomato sauce to add a chilli and nut kick, it worked well enough but I would certainly recommend this more as a condiment or topper. It also worked well alongside some cool tofu for a nice mixture of creaminess and spiky salsa. Really unusual, and really welcome: this is definitely a store cupboard staple for me from now on.

Vegam friendly, no added sugar.This sauce has more of a paste texture but can be used as either, add to a chilli con carne or add to a dollop of mayonnaise to create a gorgeous creamy chilli sauce. As £12 for 3 small jars is a tad steep!

Hot, smoky, crunchy and nutty. It's nice, but we really need a few good ideas about how to use it. It's too spicy and too thick to be used as a dip. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing to add a spoonful to dishes like chilli (while you would get the heat it will dilute the nutty crunchiness and would seem like a bit of a waste). The Gran Luchito website doesn't give all that many ideas around this particular product in terms of uses (taco, steak, scrambled eggs, and er, anything really, apparently). The website has lots of recipes, but they are not indexed by ingredient - you need to read through all recipes to see if any of them use a particular product - big hint to Gran Luchito: to make your website more user friendly, please allow a user to go from a product to a list of recipes using it.

Delicious dippings for nachos or plain tortilla chips. They weren’t much spicy for me but the flavour is really good.

If you like Gran Luchito's Chipotle paste you will love this also. It has a fabulous roasted chilli flavour and good heat and it's sufficiently different to justify having both on hand. The peanuts add another layer of complexity to the profile without being noticeable or overpowering. Get it!
