I have never written a poor review even though I was not completely happy with orders. These bugs do not grow. I left them in water for 48 hours and they barely did anything. They mostly just gotten a bit wrinkled. I bought them for my nephews but luckily my daughter and I decided we wanted to play with a couple before giving them away. I am very disappointed as I remember being little and having fun with some dinosaurs that grew. I will not be giving them to my nephews and I will just be throwing them away like the garbage they are.

These were super fun for my boys 4 year old Preschool Halloween party. The kids LOVED them. My boys went right home and opened up what they got and put them all in one pint sized jar. There were 5 of them total. By the 2nd day they were too big for the jar so I moved all of them to a quart jar. I changed out the water a few times, it gets slimy fast. By the 3rd day they were too big for the quart jar. I then moved them into a glass bowl so my boys could still see them. It has been a week now and they haven't gotten any bigger but they are bigger than their hands. Super fun for them to watch grow.

Really cool and fun but they take too long to get large. You have to leave them overnight, they're kind of smelly too. After you take them out of the water they're super slimy and will shrink within a couple of hours. There aren't any instructions either so if you give them as favors in goodie bags the children will never know to make them big.

Soak them overnight in cold water and they do get big. Just rice water later be is a bit murky. My daughter loved it. The only thing is they didn't come individually wrapped like I thought. They were all thrown into a cheap plastic wrap like bag. And all insects!! Variety was not good. But they did the job. I put 8 bugs into a ziplock bag for each child at my daughters party. I put a note on the bag that gave more direction by these didn't have any!! I think they were a hit. Despite poor packaging and no good variety

I purchased these to give as favors at a playgroup playdate- the kids loved that they could grow bugs! At first glance I noticed that some of the bugs came brittle and broken- the ones I was able to salvage and pass out did not barely grow after many hours of sitting in water. Very cheap price so I am not sure why I was excpecting great results but the kids loved the bright colors and shapes- I just wish they would have worked.

If you're looking for insects to grow for a birthday party activity, I recommend the sponge capsules instead, which expand in less than a minute: Toysmith Instant Insects 6 Capsules 3361. As for these Grow-an-Insects, they don't come with instructions, but it appears leaving a few of them in warm water overnight can make them expand. The Grow-an-Insects have a distinct and disturbing odor to them and feel slimy when you take them out.The butterfly wings grow inconsistently, and the legs for the other kinds of bugs are pretty fragile. Even if you do get one to grow, the child can't play with it much or have any fun because it's so delicate. I'm aware that this is a cheap toy made in China, but even then it's not worth the price.

I saw lots of reviews of people saying these didn't work so I was worried but my son wanted to make 'bug jar' valentines & we thought it would be neat if the bugs were something the kids could have a little fun with.Needless to say it was a good choice!I soaked 2 (different colors & different bugs) in cool, room temperature water (not hot or cold) for 48 hours & both grew well!They start out about the size of a quarter (and are pretty flat).After 24 hours they were grown a very noticeable size & after 48 hours were about 3" L x 3" H (approx.) & the width was thicker (not as flat.)We got lots of colors (black, blue, green, red, pinkish orange, magenta purple, yellow.)Great product for a little treat!

My girlfriend's kids loved them. But they took a lot longer to grow then I thought. A few days, actually. They also just came in a clear bag, no instructions. But it was cool to see how big they grew.
