This does exactly what I need - very basic tester to determine whether there is current in a circuit (wire).It has a few cool features - there is a light on it (you could be working in the dark), and you can vary between flashlight and laser pointer.It also identifies separately a neutral from a load wire.It comes with batteries (off brand) which is nice but I replaced with Duracell.The unit beeps when it detects a live circuit.The directions are not helpful - I’ve never used one of these before so it was not obvious how to actually turn it on. I’ll save you the trouble: The power button is red in color, use it for both on and off. There are two other buttons: once it’s on you can use one button to for the light and the other button to identify load from neutral.Although it took me a second to figure out how to turn it on, for the price, can’t be beat. Better directions, or an online video (even better) would help.

For the price, using this item will save you even more. Finding annoying electrical failures, like the need to find a burned out bulb already installed on a holiday tree becomes a true piece of cake! It becomes fun, while in the past it was so frustrating that I would have to remove the wiring and go to the store to find a replacement with bulbs that matched the color of other lights in the room. No more!!Get one and keep it handy! You’ll find a lot of uses!Very basic .. it even has a flashlight built in for those nasty power failures.

It works well in my initial tests but be aware that the included heavy duty batteries are short lived and are very prone to leakage and therefore should be replaced as soon as possible. I usually use lithium batteries as they have a much longer life than alkalines and I've never had one leak. Alkaline batteries are ok just be sure and replace them when they are dead or they sometimes leak.

The tester is simple to use. It's quick and easy to use to make sure the power is off before working on live wires. I am taking out old style switches and receptacles and replacing them with decora. So before touching I test each one to make sure its turn off by a breaker.

This tester is so nice. Easy to use. Especially like the infrared feature and its own integrated led light for those tiny spaces

This non-contact Voltage Tester Pen is extremely easy to use , just turn it on and place it on the wire that you want to check for active power a LED light will light up if there is power to the wire you're testing . It is also very compact and easy to store or can be kept if a shirt or pants pocket .

It’s okay but sometimes it takes a little time to get power on or hi lo button. Occasional usage would be ok but not very durable. Always check on a known live plug before using.

The unit feels cheaply made when you pick it up. So do the buttons. The unit does what is intended, but it there is about a half to one second delay in signaling. Leave it in place for a one count before moving on.
