fun
It was a wonderful read. The world building is multilayered and creative, the story is well paced, and the main character interesting. I truly enjoyed it and hope you will too.The world forces itself into an apocalyptic event and magic comes to the rescue. The laws of nature have been rewritten. A man on the far side of the country at the time starts the long trek home in hopes that his family survived. He gains unique skills, defeats awful creatures and then aids a community in defeating a raid boss before reaping the rewards. He isn’t home yet, but his feet are firmly on the path.

Inconsistent
The book is pretty good overall. The premise and execution of the magic system is done well. I dont mind the two tier system. The story progression is pretty good. Here is what I do mind. The MC is supposed to be a project manager. He in no way ever manages the project of the apocalypse. EG there is no plan, no execution on the plan and no updating the plan as you learn more. The book would make much more sense if he was a maintenance worker.Moving on the fight scenes are in extreme detail. If that is your thing, you will probably like it. I am more tell be about the fight but in no way tell me blow by blow, and the thought process about the blows.Probably the most problematic thing for me is the constant whining but the MC. Oh I miss my family. Oh I can't kill baby (name your monster). It is a significant part of the dialog and does not end. It would be fine if the author cut it way back. As is I skim past a lot to get to scenes with planning and progression.

An Australian post apocalyptic LitRPG adventure
This one was quite entertaining. Not just from the Aussie settings, or the fragility of the main character, or the vaguely plausible scenario. It was also the inventive monsters, especially the big bad looming over the remains of Wagga Wagga.

Fun take on the genre
It was an enviable enjoyable read with good characters and some nice twists on the genre. Definitely worth a download.

very different twist on litrpg
I really enjoyed the world building in this story and eagerly await the next book to see where we go from here.

Good story...
I removed a star because for me there's WAY too much introspection mid fights and too much talk about stats. But I just skip over those parts. I'm really enjoying the MC's progress, character development and the world building is great. I'm really enjoying it overall and immediately downloading book 2!

Fun read. Fairly complex characters.
I've been reading a lot of this genre lately. Many are wish fulfillment with hardly any character growth. The main character has a clear objective beyond simply surviving, emotions, and a minor character arc. I'm not a literary expert but I found the complexity refreshing and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. (Other reviews discuss the LitRPG elements which i agree are refreshingly unique in general and particularly for being optimistic.)

Fresh new litrpg and Aussie
So, being an aussie as well, i love the fact this is set in and near Wagga which is "önly a stones throw" from where i live. Having said that in some ways it is also very classic litrpg too but Adrian gets a 'broken'interface that seems to be able to help him and due to his start he manages to be OP as a lvl 1 as well. The levelling process at the start also seem broken and almost useless to me but over time I began to see how the author has setup the differences and why so that was ok but it was annoying in the beginning. Bit weird having an OP level 1 able to probably easily kill a lvl 10 normal but adds some spice to it while wanting me to find out more. The beginning is a bit slow in many ways but certainly develops nicely by the time the MC gets to town so I suggest for experienced litrpg just persist. Adrian suffers strongly from guilt and the 'fake impostor' syndrome despite virtually solo a full raid boss and if this continues so strongly then it is going to annoy me as it just detracts from the book when it is too much. However, as a 1st book, very much a 5 star from me for the author and we done with the characters so look forward to the next one. In some ways i hate that i found this book just after being released so I guess it will be a while before we find out what Steve wants from Adrian next......... <sad face>

Refreshing take
An enjoyable read - I've downloaded and started the next one! Though not a page-turner to the extent that I couldn't go to sleep for needing to know what was going to happen next, it has definitely been fun to read. The best point about this book, I think, is that it is slightly different from others I've read in this genre for three main reasons.First, it's set in Australia. Reading a post-apocalyptic gamelit story which takes place somewhere other than the US is definitely refreshing and, for me, added an immediate bit of interest.Second, the interface (the way the character interacts with the System) is intriguingly different from other books I've read. Neither a clear separate individual being (like a dungeon fairy) or simply a technological structure enabling the character to see their stats, the interface in this book has clearly been thought through carefully. I'm curious to see whether the hints about sentient/sapient are going to lead anywhere...Third, the character is married with a family who he desperately wants to get back to. Most of the books I've read in this genre either have a MC who is single or who loses his family in the first parts of the book. While I can understand authors' desires for a 'clean slate', as it were, the desperation of the character in this book to find his family, along with the very human fears of what might have happened to them, add a bit of originality for me. To be noted here is the fact that the MC is far from perfect, and, apart from the luck which he seems to have been blessed with, has somewhat more realistic characterisation than others I've read (Dave Willmarth's Shadow Sun series is one of my favourites, but no one can argue that Alastair is realistic...)In short, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

Unstructured drivel.
I must admit that I only managed to struggle through the first few chapters, but the author seems unable to construct complete sentences. I see lots of positive reviews, but it is important that the beginning of a story grabs the reader's attention.

Competent start to a new series
It starts relatively slowly and takes some perseverance to become engrossed in the challenges facing the main character. He is a somewhat unprepossessing individual who is not easy to like, but makes the right moral choices. By the end he has evolved sufficiently to be a dangerous player. I am interested in seeing how the story develops and have already got the next book.

Mostly refreshing
I am a repeat reader of this genre so the waffle with the stats and progression gets a bit bemusing. On the whole the story has a strong backbone. A word of caution for the writer...please don't repeat stuff as I will get bored.
