Too hard to use
I bought these for eco reasons. Unfortunately I can’t squeeze the water out because they are too stiff and bulky.

My favorite!
Very good sponges. At first seam too big and bulky but with use are getting softer and easier to use. Perfect, solid, do not fall apart. Exactly what I wanted.

Effective Green Solutions for the Kitchen to Help Combat Environmental Waste
The alternative to a plastic based scourer – which are admittedly very cheap from many shops – is to look for a reusable, zero waster and bio-degradable alternative, step forward Solution Green. These dish sponges arrive in cardboard box measuring 120 x 110 x80mm containing a six pack selection of 4 cellulose sponge and loofah scourer and 2 scourer only pads. The recommendation is to soak them prior to first use and then use them as a direct replacement for the non-green plastics based scourers. So do they work? I think that depends how you use them and whether you find yourself comfortable using them in that way. Let me explain. The Dual cellulose and Scourer pads are stiffer than a plastics based scourer and as such you need to apply a little more pressure to get them into corners and the nooks and crannies on some smaller items. If you do that they are extremely effective at removing any residual food or liquids with the help of the dishwater and washing up liquid of course. I would say these are a little better than many plastics based scourers with the sometimes ineffective sponge side. If you follow the instructions and rinse them before hanging them until next use the lifetime is very much prolonged. In fact the first dual sided cellulose/Scourer is still in use after 4 weeks and we rarely had a plastics based one beyond 10-14 days.Yes, they work out almost the same price for one as a pack of four plastics sponges, but following the instructions you may get the same or better lifetime from one of these than that pack of four. If we do mean to have any impact on the waste and environmental damage we are causing through rampant waste and plastic mountains, then products such as these from Solutions Green must be adopted, and hopefully with mass adoption the economies of scale will help lower the costs too. Recommended.

Oh my, where do I begin
To begin with, I like these sponges. But there are some huge issues with these. Firstly, they are way too big. These should at least have an option of ordering them in half their size. They are very well made, so squashing them to fit into smaller cups and suchlike is a real (physical) botheration. The strain on the hand is enormous. And since these are stitched through (along the edge, so that the two components of the sponge stick together) you should not really try to cut them up yourself, I assume. They are also quite thick. Maybe, this in itself wouldn't have been a problem were they half their size, but, being large and thick, these take a while to dry. This also means that you have to use double or triple of the washing up liquid initially just to get some foam out of them. And if you are using liquids such as Method, this comes in pricey. It might not be a problem for many as people tend to be generous with application of the washing up liquid. If you rather use just as much as is required, you will notice the difference with/on this sponge instantly. So this is something to consider. Overall, as I said, I like them. They keep their shape quite well. They look much better than their plastic counterparts in the long run and they feel much better to touch, authentic-like. They are also heavier than the plastic ones and last much longer. But something needs to be done about the size. Please keep the amount of the sponge in the box, by all means, but cut it up in smaller bit (my suggestion). And thanks for the wonderful product.

Loofah too stiff and fell apart
Always keen to find eco friendly alternatives to plastic waste I was keen to try these wash up sponges. Made of loofah and cellulose you get the two different wash up sponges in one, the loofah part being the scourer and the cellulose sponge. The sponge is very absorbent and is the only part that was usable.Unfortunately I found the loofah too stiff and difficult to use, it was impossible to press the edges around the pans to effectively use it like a scourer. I also found in less than a week that the two sponge parts fell apart, almost like the cellulose sponge had degraded.6 sponges in the pack, they were all just as bad as each other and even though they are much more environmentally friendly than my usual wash up sponges, they work out about £1 each but are really quite useless. I did try another sponge to give them the benefit of the doubt but this was also too stiff and fell apart after about a week of use. I binned the rest and wouldn’t use these again, unfortunately I do not receommend these.

Brilliant and eco-friendly
I think this sponges are value for money when you consider the environmental impact. There is no plastic packaging, as you would expect, and the box is informative too. In fact, the box is not too large and it is the ideal place to store the spare sponges for when you are ready for them – much better than the typical plastic wrap you get.I love that these sponges can be composted, what a brilliant idea! Whilst they are not the most attractive to look at, I think this just reinforces how natural they are. The sponges feel well-made, even down to the handy drying loop. The sponges are very firm and once you have got used to the firmness in the washing up bowl, I have found they cleaned effectively. The soft sponge-like side is ideal for regular cleaning; the more abrasive side has cleaned up pizza trays really well. That being said, I have kept my industrial strength pot scourer to hand in case of cooking emergencies!Overall, I am really pleased with these sponges and think they are an easy step to making a big difference to the planet. I am likely to permanently switch to these eco-friendly washing sponges because they are natural. Although these sponges are firm and hold their shape, unlike standard washing up sponges, I think these make a good clean and are essential for all households.
