Yatoshi Knife Block with Ultra Sharp High Carbon Steel

I purchased this set because I wanted the knife set to match the kitchen colors and they offered a dark walnut color for both the block and the handles. First thing I noticed is the handles are not smooth as you can feel the grain in the wood and this is not the most comfortable when handling the knives for a longer period of time. I’m also concerned that they will not pass the test of time due to the minimal processing of the handles. The block is walnut color, but it must be a softer wood as it is very easy to chip the wood when replacing the knives into the block. The kitchen shears fell apart after 6 uses. I’m hoping the steel is better than the wood and will maintain its sharpness. I should have spent a little more for a higher quality set.

I bought this hoping it could be my "forever" knife set. They look nice (though the "Damascus" is just a laser-etched pattern on them, not actual folded steel), but within the first couple of weeks one of the knives broke in half with light use. The distributer took care of the situation and totally made things right. So good on them for treating me appropriately. But my complaint to the manufacturer through their website was never even responded to. So nice looking knives, good solid handles, but (in my personal experience) the QC might be a bit lacking. I'm just glad I wasn't injured when the knife broke.

Very handsome kitchen counter knife set. Wood block holder and knife handles were quality and quite attractive. Damascus steel pattern etched or stenciled somehow onto the stainless steel knife blades looked awesome in product photos, but appeared hilarious and kind of cheap in person upon arrival. Obviously the blades aren't Damascus Steel, they're far too bright and shiny. They arrived razor sharp though! Very well apportioned, well thought out, medium sized kitchen counter knife set. Arrived exactly as pictured and described. Well packaged and was delivered free from any damage in transit.

I received these knifes as a gift and they are fantastic. However, most of the knifes have rust spots (see picture) regardless of hand washing and caring for them as instructions state. I am quite bummed after seeing the price tag and realizing the quality isn’t the same.

The knives are not really Damascus. The design looks to be laser etched on witch isn’t a big deal but don’t say it is when it isn’t. Also the scissors split in half after 2 weeks of light use. The blade holds it edge but if you use a plastic cutting board if not expect to start sharpening the knives in a regular basis

The construction is nice, the hardwood handle is nice but small, and they are reasonably sharp, but the damascus pattern is a joke. The knives in all the photos look beautiful and I was hoping even if it wasn’t real damascus, it would at least look like that. They don’t. The pattern etching is cheap and terrible. The blades themselves too are all scratched up and don’t look new. I would take just plain stainless over these any day. Disappointed and will be returning them.

Arrived sharp, in very presentable boxes, individually wrapped with plastic guards on the points. Fit and finish almost without any issues, one of the knives paring I think, has a rolled point, didn’t notice at first. Not dishwasher safe and one of the utility knives is indistinguishable from the steak knives, as the steak knives are not and do not need to be serrated. The damasc pattern appears laser etched, but I am over all very happy with the initial fit and finish and I hope they last 14 years (or more than) like my previous heavily used cheapola set did.
