Our TV is probably around twenty years old at this point in time. This was an extremely expensive TV when it came out and despite its age we continue to use it and it works well. One issue we’ve always had with this TV was the remote control. We are currently on our third remote. It seems that the most commonly used buttons (volume, channel up/ down) tend to wear out over time and become very unresponsive. This last happened a few years ago. At that time I was able to find a NOS (New Old Stock) Sony remote on EBay for around $20. That replacement lasted several years and recently began to wear out again so I began the hunt for a new replacement.I was very happy to discover this replacement remote option so easily. I was even a little skeptical based on the cheap ($12) price for a brand new replacement. I figured it was worth the gamble and ordered it.The remote arrived very quickly and initially looked perfect. It is slightly different color (a bit darker gray) than the original SONY remote. It also lacks the SONY branding on the front of the remote. That makes sense as I’m sure it isn’t made by Sony. The lower front cover that goes over some of the function buttons isn’t a great fit. It comes open far more easily than on the original SONY remote. Not a big deal except that our young child became obsessed with playing with it once she discovered it would slide so easily. I ended up popping the cover off of the original remote and swapping it onto the new replacement remote. It was a much better fit and no longer comes open too easily. The main difference has to do with the weight of the remote. The new one is considerably lighter than the original one. Even with the batteries removed from the old one and installed in the replacement remote the original still weighs more. To me that speaks to the construction quality of the replacement remote. I’m sure it’s not built anywhere near as well as the actual SONY piece. However for $12 it is certainly a good option and I have no real complaints that I can’t live with. Very good option for the price.
