Loyal Union Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts: 121 Traditional Blocks - Quilt Along with the Women of the Civil War

I like this book, because it shows the patterns that the Union/southerners used in their quilts during the Civil War. It shows the type of fabric & colors possible used in their quilts plus templates in the back of the book. Some history is also provided, plus instructions on how to put the blocks together. If you are an antique or vintage quilter, I would recommend this book.

Honestly, I'm not a quilter, but I bought the Loyal Union Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts for my mother for Christmas, which I think she is going to love. Like I already said, I'm not a quilter, but I have read a few of the Elm Creek Quilts novels by Jennifer Chiaverini. She is a wonderful writer and from the looks of this quilt book, she is a great quilter as well. The book contains 121 quilt blocks which can be combined into the 98" x 98" Loyal Union Sampler. I'm impressed by the book and I hope my mother is too.

Like all other Jennifer Chiaverini quilt books this one definitely meets all expectations. It is a beautiful book with clear directions for the quilt blocks. The article in the front brings you right back into the story of The Union Quilters. There was nothing that I disliked about this quilt book.

My quilt guild made a quilt using this book. It did not appeal to me. There is a lot of foundation piecing.

Love Jennifer Chiaverini and her series the Elm Creek quilters. It's about quilting, yes, but it is about the lives of the women and how they became who they are today.This sampler book is some of the quilts that are in the book. Gives instructions and has some great pictures to go with the quilts.Great addition to any quilters collection.

Another awe-inspiring book by Jennifer Chiaverini! I was in the middle of making another quilt when I received my copy of the Loyal Union Sampler. Needless to say, I had to start working on these patterns, as I was so taken by the different patterns and designs that I couldn't wait. She is truly a gifted artist in meshing fabric, designs, patterns, and writing together to create another winning book.

For guys married to gals who quilt, and are into the Elm Creek Quilters series of books, this bookis a great gift for a birthday or anniversary. It has the patterns to make some beautiful quilts, andwinter is coming, so a colorful and historical quilt to keep you and your sweetie warm is a nicewin-win gift.

Are the templates true to size? I think they are. Totally love this inspirational guide book for civil war quilting! It has brought me to a new level w quilting.I now have a civil war palette. And I'm actually making several of these blocks. Quilting takes organization & marking my cuts w masking tape to then sew blocks together. I'm Learning & studying cuting & colors beyond this marvelous book! Huge inspirational guide! Thank you Jennifer!

I am disappointed that this book is not interactive. You can't click on the name of a block or an icon to go to the correct page on how to construct it. You have to keep slogging through page after page to get to your chosen block. Really irritating when there are 121 of them. I think I'd have been better served by the analogue version.

For readers of the Elm Creek series of books this is a must if you are a quilter. The 121 designs and templates make up into 6" blocks and in turn are joined to make the quilts from the Elm Creek books. The blocks are clearly explained and many of them are unusual and quite simple to make. An excellent quilting book

Clearly set out and easy to follow, including all templates needed. A book for leafing through for ideas or just to enjoy. Plenty of samples to highlight the difference colour makes to the same basic patterns. An inspirational book for a group to work together to produce such a quilt.

I enjoyed the book to read and clear directions but the pieces are so small. Was advise to increase the size on the copier to make the squares larger Will try when I have finished my present project.

An excellent and interesting book. Loads of patterns for the patchworker to copy in a similar quilt, or to adapt and change (mix them up) to make your own.
