This is the best beat-down stick I own. Pure, solid hickory. When I first took it out of the box the smell was beautiful!BUT BE MINDFUL: This is not a "Tire Gauge/Thumper" like what was used back in the 1920s to check tire pressure. Those are LEGAL to carry in one's vehicle because it's literally a tire gauge, just super old-school. One better know how to use it though, to prove it to the cop. But those Truncheon's are always branded as such. It's a pure technicality. That's my understanding of the law anyhow, that even though the Tire Truncheon is obviously meant for combat, because of how it's made (in terms of weight distribution, etc.) it's technically a tool for your tire. AKA: Legal to have on your passenger-side floorboard (CHECK YOUR STATE AND VERIFY I'M CORRECT).THIS HICKORY STICK, though, is so super hardcore that it was impossible for the Hardcore Hammer Company to diminish its sheer striking power and mass. It cannot bypass laws due to a technicality, however. If you're caught with this in your car (other than your trunk) where I live, it's a "deadly weapon.""Tire Thumper" = Basically the same thing, but not as hardcore by any stretch of the imagination other than one straight-up baseball bat "Tire Gauge."

Nice wood
Nice piece of hickory. The grain of the wood is straight and correct. The one I received was 18 1/2 inches long. The shape is not round, it is oval, so it fits in your hand very well. The edges of the four finger grooves were a little sharp to me. I used 200 grit sandpaper and that worked to smooth those finger groove edges out. I used a little mineral oil to wipe away the sanding. Nice wood.

Great product incredible price
Very happy with purchase. Really hard and durable. Smooth finished slides up and down hand really easily but has grooves at the end to increase grip strength. Cord is durable. I can roll the cord around my wrist a couple of times to increase grip security. It is oval instead of round allowing giving it stronger impact potential than a round wooden stick dowel has. Finish is really well done.

Its not very strong but it gets my job done
This is not a self defense weapon, or a good hammer. I purchased this to assist with weaponizing my shins and forearms, and it works great for training the body in that way. I think if I actually used this in a combat scenario, my hands would be a lot more effective - the wood is light and not very dense, and I am very familiar with wooden weapons. Its a cute prop though.

Good for Protection During Dog Walks
Not to heavy, but feels good in my hand. I like the wrist string, as well. I use this for protection from a dog attack while I'm walking my own dog. There is a very aggressive dog in my neighborhood, who is very strong and the owner has a difficult time handling him. He tries very hard to go after my Frenchie. After doing research on how to protect you and your dog from a dog attack, I've armed myself with this, as well as Citronella Spray. Hopefully I won't have to use it, but I feel better carrying it.

Adding a star for "made in USA", otherwise it's a mediocre stick.
Pretty rough quality, minimalistic features. It's basically a $3 (raw materials price) hickory stick (1 1/2 by 1 1/4 oval, 17 3/4 long) with some grooves in it, a hole, and a piece of paracord.I guess the $18 price is justified since this is American made.If you are a woodworker, you can make a better custom stick. If you don't have the right tools, this is a decent buy for the money ($15-$20 is a fair price, considering the labor is American). If you are tight on money, get a hardwood dowel or a 2x2 at Home Depot, and shape it yourself. My stick had just a single insignificant imperfection in the wood, properly aligned grain, and no knots, so I don't expect it to break.I would have paid $10 more for a more thought through stick. Like a better more ergonomical handle, finger sanding/finish, and a heavier (or weighted) business end.P.S. Many negative one star reviews are due to the "potential cancer harm" sticker on it. People don't notice it's for California only, that "progressive" state requires this warning on most products that contain chemicals. In this case it's wood warnish. Don't worry about this sticker. You have as much chance to get cancer from licking this stick as you do from handling most household objects.

Well made and also light weighted
Even though this product is not advertised as a self-defense weapons, but I needed something like a mini baton to put in the car just in case you're in a situation that you have something to defend yourself. It's well made and also light weighted.

It's A Very Sturdy Stick and It's Made of Hickory. Enough Said?
I've seen these items described as a tire thumpers. Since I've never felt the need to thump a tire, I didn't understand the title. However given the prevailing need for euphemism these days, why not call it an "industrial size" conductor's baton? Or, "Shrek's toothpick?" Whatever you need such a thing for, I'm sure it will do the job admirably. I, personally, am now looking for unruly tires who need some thumps.
