Good for monster hunter fans.
I originally bought this for the psp as well, but decided to get this version as I wanted to play on a bigger screen. Doesn't really matter if you can't read Japanese or not, there are plenty of guides on this game on you-tube. Bought the psp version when I was studying Japanese in university but have played other games in the franchise as well. All Japanese imported games on psp and ps3 will generally work on your UK console. Also got both versions as they never released mhp3rd to the west or Europe, only in Japan. Main menu screen comes with bunch of promo and in game cutscenes. There's an online segment seemingly but have not tested this yet. Still playing the game and it's pretty fun overall.

Buy only if you're a hardcore fan.
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver is a HD remake of the popular 4 million selling Monster Hunter Portable 3rd game for the Playstation Portable.First off, I'll go on to say this game works with PS3's from any region since the hardware is region free, thanks, Sony!Everything from MHP3rd is all here in HD glory and it's finally a chance to be able to play Monster Hunter on a console that's more suited for it, but there's a little question. "Is this good for beginners?" the answer is no. Due to Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver and it's original PSP release being in Japan only means that obviously everything in the game is going to be in Japanese. This will no doubt overwhelm any players new to the Monster Hunter series as for being a fan of the games for a while, I was able to tell what items were through the icons but I was still confused about the actual descriptions and item names. There are websites dedicated to giving you translations for this game but it's possible you might find it quite tedious to search through all of the armour sets, weapons until you found the specific one you're after , as I did sometimes.Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver plays like what you'd grew to love about the MH games from the past. You start off as a scrubby hunter who has to work his way to the top and slowly work his/her way through the ranks gaining weapons, armour and items along way. You'll mine, fish, catch bugs, gather at spots and slay monsters to require materials in order to gain better equipment so you'll be able to take on the bigger more nastier monsters that wait ahead later in the game. There's also similar additions placed back into the game from past MH games like the farm, training schools and of course the guild halls. The multiplayer mode in this game works very similar to other MH games that were released on the PSP, in order to play online you will have to use a Japanese version of Ad Hoc Party ( Which is included on the disc.) You choose a lobby to play in then you create a room for other players to join in with you. Keep in mind if you're going to play online I suggest you join the Capcom Unity forums or any other site that has a forum dedicated to MHP3rd to round up some English players to hang with. The Japanese players are really helpful and will help you out on quests but as you can imagine, communicating can be rather tricky. So, is this game worth getting? Honestly, I would try to recommend this game to everyone but if you're new to the Monster Hunter games I would strongly recommend that you get some of the English released MH games before doing so. The MH games that are in English that I would absolutely recommend are Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for the Playstation Portable and Monster Hunter Tri (3) for the Nintendo Wii. Both of these games like MHP3rd HD also have multiplayer modes as well (Freedom Unite uses Ad Hoc Party on the PS3 and Xlink while MHTri uses online servers.) Both of these can be found at reasonably cheap prices, provide hours of entertainment and will give you a good taste of what Portable 3rd HD is like.If you're a hardcore of the MH games then I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.Pros! Finally a chance to play Monster Hunter on the PS3.Plenty of weapons, armour and items to gather.Tons of quests to take part in.Multiplayer mode is still a blast. The HD look is pretty great.Cons!New players will probably be overwhelmed if not experienced from older MH games or don't understand Japanese.Camera can still be a pain. Not as much content compared to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.Communications with some players in multiplayer mode can be tricky.
