Lessons Learned
The author, Joni Eareckson Tada, was only seventeen when she became paralyzed after a diving accident. She says God asked her for everything she had....health, hopes, independence, dreams, freedom, and mobility. At first she was angry...More than forty years later, thru trials, disappointments, challenges, and fear, this amazing woman has produced her best book yet. A lifetime in a wheelchair has enabled her to share with us, some of the wisdom she has acquired about her faith in God.Along with her autobiography, "The God I Love", Joni, an accomplished artist, musician, author of many inspirational books, is also an international disability advocate. She once told God "I can't live like this. If You won't let me die, then show me how to live". He did. She listened. The world loves this beautiful woman.Reader, if you need more proof that our creator God indeed exists, check out this book and the resource pages Joni provides in back of the book that will inspire you to rise above your present circumstances. Joni's lifetime of wisdom "lifts us higher" and she has learned how to do it as a quadriplegic. You cannot help but love her and all those who have assisted her over the decades, including her devoted husband.

A book of "hard won" wisdom from someone who has been through it
If you wonder why "bad" things happen to Christians, then this is the book to get. This woman has been through so much, yet she has gained great wisdom (what she calls "rubies") from these hard things in life. She honestly can praise God for the hard things she has gone through because through these "things", she has learned that God has been there the entire time. She honestly loves Him because of what she has learned in these trials. If you have questions about the tough stuff of life, or the "hard things" in life, then get this book; learn from someone who has been through them and flourished in spite of them.

Just What I Needed
I got this book at a very timely juncture of my life--the week our family got a very difficult medical diagnosis. This diagnosis was just the latest in a series of difficult trials our family has faced over the last several years. Reading this book was like drinking from a fresh spring of water. Page after page is filled with heart-level truths Tada has discovered over her 40 years spent paralyzed in a wheelchair. She shares what she has learned about who God is in the middle of anger, loneliness, confusion, and more, and she speaks about what it really means to lean into the grace of God every day. I can't stress enough how highly I would recommend it!

The second time was even better than the first
I was given this book by a friend and read it twice now. The second time was even better than the first. It is an excellent book full of wisdom and insight gleaned from the Word of God and from life's circumstances. It was so helpful to me to read going through the ups and downs of my own life. I bought this book for each of my adult children for Christmas this year.

Wise Indeed
This book is so honest and Joni is so transparent that people who have experienced or are experiencing intense - INTENSE - suffering find truth here. Joni is a Godsend for people whose lives don't mirror the fake "victorious Christian living" model that so many Christian leaders tout. Those who have to live daily with pain and suffering, or alongside people they love who are suffering, will find this book to be powerful and poignant. I read it twice, and often flip back to certain passages. Thank God for Joni and her life and witness. There are so many people who need the truth about God's healing today.

Special Truths
This book provides a very powerful personal testimony to one of the greatest truths in God--that He loves us and has the best for us "always," no matter what we suffer or are permitted to endure in this life. The scriptures she points out and her own moving, personal experience, teaches or reminds us that God loves us, that He is always with us, and that He cares for us through every hardship we encounter.I recommend this book to anyone whose personal faith needs inspired and strengthened in the face of any blow life deals out.

Wonderful book
Joni has written an outstanding book. She has learned so much throughout a lifetime of submitting to God while in terrible pain and in a wheelchair. She shares what she has learned - rubies of wisdom, hard won. It is a great book for people going through any type of difficulty, or working with people who are. It is easy to read and very helpful.
