A Guide for Your Journey to Creative Success!
“How to Start a Business Selling Arts and Crafts Online & Offline” by Elaina Garcia is a great guide to sell your handmade items on various online platforms like eBay, Etsy, and social media sites like Facebook. It also talks about selling at physical locations like flea markets and pop-up shops. The author majored in business and wanted to help people learn how to sell their creations both online and offline. This book topic appealed to me because I create artwork and crafts, so I am always on the lookout for reading material to learn more about marketing and selling my work. I appreciate the variety of information provided in this book; it’s written in a straightforward way. The more specific parts of the business information, like the section on licenses and legalities, was particularly useful because that is an aspect of creative businesses that I am not very familiar with. I also appreciate that the author addresses both selling on online platforms and at actual physical locations. The way you go about selling and the work you put into it can vary between online and offline arenas, so it is great to be able to read advice on it. Starting your own business and selling your creations can feel intimidating, but there are informational resources out there, like this book, that can help you start your journey to creative success! I definitely recommend this book to people who hand make creative items and are looking into starting their own business selling their products.

Sound advice from an artist who is also a businessperson
Ms. Garcia is that unexpected combination of artist and business major and has assisted other artists in making their work generate income. She even includes an interview with a fellow artist. She explains the intricacies of setting up a small business in a straightforward manner, presenting the pros and cons of different business models. She also compares and contrasts several different selling platforms. New platforms are popping up all the time; she shows artists what to look for when shopping around for a venue for selling art and crafts. The money aspects of business are covered, too – how to calculate profit margin and variable cost. I recognized these from when I helped a friend run his small business so that he wouldn’t assume all the money that came in was profit. (I was never a business major; I’m surprised I did as well as I did!) She also gives away a few “dirty tricks” regarding pricing!

Good Solid Advise
This book was a very fast read. I actually finished it in one sitting on a Sunday afternoon. It has really good advise and you can't get more up to date than dealing with starting a business while we are still in Covid.I was already doing some of the things she recommends which to me was reassuring that I am on the right track. I think my favorite thing about the author is that she is very inspiring and after reading her book I know I can make my hobby into a money making side gig.

No real information, should be sold as a booklet
This "book" really doesn't contain any information about actually starting a craft business. The font size is HUGE and looks childish. If it had been printed in a normal font size it would have been a booklet. This book could be useful for someone who's never though about having a craft business before and just wants to ponder it, but anyone whose spent more than a day thinking about it won't benefit from this book.
