Great sequel!
There's no denying I was a huge fan of this entire trilogy. It may not be the greatest or best written book in the world, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable and fun to read. It was exactly what I needed when I read it, and that's what matters. This book picks up not too long after the first one, with Charlie and his friends almost immediately sniffing out a new problem in a nearby town that may just infiltrate their own and decide to do some investigating. They quickly realize that the people in Orville Falls are turning into sleepwalking zombies and someone is selling them some sort of tonic that claims to chase their nightmares away. They quickly realize that the people behind this mysterious tonic aren't just trying to rule the Waking world, but are trying to rule the Netherworld as well, taking over both dream and reality! In this book, Charlie's little brother, Jack, is the star of the show, as he forms an integral part of the story and holds the key to solving the entire mystery. This creates more conflict and tension between the siblings as Charlie wants to protect his brother while simultaneously wants him to stay out of his limelight. I believe that Segel and Miller interpreted and illustrated that relationship brilliantly, as it could be quite tricky to accomplish, but I thought it was done really well.Charlie is a very lucky boy to have such a strong support system in his stepmom, brother and friends, but also in the characters from the Dream Realm, who all come to his rescue and assistance when he requires it.Unlike the first book, this one ends with a clear gateway into what direction the third book will be heading towards. Definitely worth a read.

Makes thing that may seem scary funny. Great read
My son bought the first book at a school book fair last year. He read the book rather quickly and was excited that there was a second book available. I purchased this book and pre ordered book 3. After receiving the book, he read the entire thing the same day. Since he has loaned the book to several friends. My son is in fifth grade. He has read diary of a wimpy kid, big nate, and other type series. He found this one by chance and can't wait for book 3.This book is a lot like the diary series in that it takes a possibly scary situation and makes it comical. You want to keep reading to find out what happens! Many parts may seem a little gross but great for boys! A lot of jokes/humor accompanies the scary parts to keep your interest and keep you reading. A great read. I would definitely recommend for those who like other series like Diary of a wimpy kid.

An Excellent Sequel
I loved this one as much as, if not more than the first. Although as an adult reader who has also listened to the "Lore" podcast, I could not help but think of the episode entitled, "They Made A Tonic", for some reason... however I really loved being back in this world with these characters. And I found the new villians that were introduced in this one to be very interesting, to say the least, and I'm hoping that we will get to see them and learn more about them in the next book. This was, in my opinion, an excellent sequel to the first book. It is definitely worth the read, especially for those who enjoyed the first book in this series.

Upper Elementary Intrigued!
I teach upper elementary, and my students love this series. The books are entertaining, have great mythological and legendary connections, and turn what was previously haunting into a piece of humor. These are great books for students who are afraid of the "big chapter books" as they are easy to read. As a page-turner, it encourages my reluctant readers to take on what appears to be a large, overwhelming chapter book, and it makes it accessible to them. Please note: contains elements of magic, including magical creatures and worlds.

Good. A minor gripe is the illustrations
Good. A minor gripe is the illustrations. The first book there were a lot more, and they actually showed you things that you wanted to see. This book, things that you'd love to see an illustration of you get nothing, but when one of Charlie's friends shows up you see a picture of them looking rather normal. Example, when the three nightmares all dress up together and it is supposed to be comical how much they still look like monsters, you'd expect a drawing for that. Oh well. Still a fun read, but illustrations aside still isn't as good as the first book.

Great Book!
I just love Jason Segel. I'll admit, I only bought this because he was coming for a book signing and I wanted to see him in person. I'm so glad I did. This book is so sweet with a great moral for children... and adults! I bought them both and I'm going to buy the third when it's released. I'm so glad he wrote this and I hope he continues. He's a great writer. If you REALLY want a treat, pick up the audio version too and listen to him read it to you!

Enjoy
Ten year old loves this series. Book one is a little slow but has to build the characters however two and three move right along. A bit of a mystery story and not super scary there are nightmare characters but they have a purpose and aren't just to frighten. A boy and his friends have to figure out who is causing everyone's dreams good or bad to disappear, the dream lands are fading, who, why, and how do the group of friends stop what's going on.

Highly recommended
My usually electronics dependant son has been completely mesmerized by the whole series (which we got him for Christmas): tonight, for instance, I went to check on him in bed when he should have been sleeping but he was so engrossed in the book (as opposed to his iPad) that he lost track of time!
