The book is well written and hands down the best book out there for probabilistic seismic hazard and risk analysis.

I am a seismic hazard and risk practitioner and I sincerely think this book is the most comprehensive, clear and understandable book on the topic! I thought so since I first received it in October and continue to think the same every time I open it to look for any clarification! I highly recommend it to both experts and students.

10/10 recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about seismic hazard & risk. Since getting my copy, this book has quickly become my go-to reference on the topic. For reference, I’m a graduate student who uses much of the theory covered by this textbook in both my studies and research. Here are just a few of the reasons why I love this book: #1: It’s very well organized, divided cleanly into three parts: (1) hazard inputs, (2) hazard calculations, and (3) risk. If you’re using this book end-to-end, you’ll appreciate that the order helps you remember where things fit into place. If you’re interested in just one or a couple topics, the book is written so that you have enough context to get started right away. If additional background is needed, it’ll point you toward the pre-requisite chapters. #2: Building on my previous point, one of my favorite things about this book is its consistency and clarity — this book takes the guesswork out of the equation. The beginning of every section begins with an overarching summary of (1) why the topic is important and (2) where it fits within the textbook and broader seismic hazard & risk world. You can get a solid feel for each section just by just reading the first page. The learning objectives are also helpful if you’re just skimming for specific topics, or just want to understand exactly what to expect from each chapter. They will also save you a ton of time when reviewing for exams. #3: If you’re a visual learner like me, you will *seriously* appreciate the quality of the figures in this textbook. Each chapter is full of beautiful, well-labeled figures. I wish I had this book when I was learning PSHA for the first time!

It is an awesome and thorough textbook that quickly has become my go-to source when reviewing the PSHA content in geotechnical reports. The only thing that I wished have been included is an appendix expanding more on the application of the book material to the most recent codes (ASCE7,IBC,etc.)

Mi è piaciuto molto il libro, è essenziale per qualsiasi studente, utente o ricercatore nell'area del pericolo e del rischio sismico. Il contenuto è estremamente completo e le spiegazioni sono molto ben fatte. Gli esempi, gli esercizi e il materiale aggiuntivo, come i codici, sono di ottima qualità. Continuo a studiare e sfogliare i primi capitoli con grande interesse. Purtroppo, il libro è arrivato con gli angoli della copertina rovinati, e visivamente mi dà fastidio avere un libro "nuovo" come questo in queste condizioni.
