Timewave Zero

Blood Incantation’s last album was my pick for 2019 Metal album of the year ( tied with Cattle Decap’s Death Atlas ). I wrote a review on Amazon of it and think it is Bloody awesome. Heavy, a bit Prog, a bit Death, a bit trippy. I was very excited for the new album Timewave Zero. Got it today and have listened twice…Based on the title I was expecting the album to be progressive and sci-fi-ey but still be Metal. It is not. This is 40 minutes of ambient, Tangerine Dream, Arthur C Clarke, Soundtrack music ( with a bit of Vangelis too just without the dramatic bits). The 2 songs are about 20 minutes each. The music is quite beautiful and very chill. No, really, very, really chill. Super chill. No vocals; none.While listening I keep picturing an Anime rocket ship traveling through deep, empty space. The crew asleep. The ship on auto-pilot to some far away unknown location.Death Metal fans won’t dig it. It is certainly not what most expected as a follow up to Hidden History. I sure didn’t. 4 stars might be a bit generous but the band is still great in my opinion and I like to support good bands with my money. My son will like it. He can listen to it while he plays Mass Effect.

While I appreciate blood incantation's frame of mind to make this album, they missed the mark completely. I love ambient music, especially of the analog variety, so I could care less that this isn't a death metal record. The fact that the record is an extremely poor, drab, and boring representation of its style is what gets me. Nothing to see here... nothing that Tangerine Dream, Ashra, and even Neptune Towers haven't done before, with greater effectiveness, and a lot more pastoral. Do yourself a favor and make this something you just watch on YouTube before you consider a purchase; a route I now wish I had taken.

This band made some good music in the past, but this new album consists of turd tracks, more appropriately called skid marks. It is like they put zero effort or thought into this and just made random noise. I am angry that they will likely tour with mostly songs from this album and we will have to stand there listening to this garbage as they open before we get to see Obituary (the headlining act). I hope they get kicked off the tour. This is NOT death metal!

The previous albums of Blood Incantation are solid but vastly over-rated. (I don't have the chops to write or play this kind of stuff, so I reserve my critique more than I otherwise would.) Mostly the heavy parts don't match the quality of bands such as Immolation, Suffocation, or Demilich. Then it is mixed with some cliche sci-fi and pretentious New Age themes (Nothing new: Rings of Saturn and others have been doing it for years). This isn't secret or cutting-edge esoteric philosophy: it is cropped from popular mass market paperbacks and cable TV. It works within the context of metal, but here we all we get is no metal and all candyfloss.Here's the problem: "music" comprised solely of frequencies and vibrations sounds amazing if you're blasted out of your gourd, but the real test of this type of stuff is if it holds up to scrutiny when the chemicals are removed from the equation. In this case, the remaining result is profoundly boring.I get trying to incorporate all of these "earth-shattering" and "new" revelations into a work of art. I appreciate the effort and ambition, and it might've worked for me at another time, but now it doesn't. Thank you.

I bought this on vinyl. Everything came nice and protected. Great ambient album from a great band. The negative reviews arent worth paying attention to.I recommend this.

I'd never heard of this band before, but someone recommended this album to me as they knew I liked bands like Goblin, The Orb, and Tangerine dream and general electronic music/horror soundtracks. They were right. This is an excellent album of textures and landscapes that is great to listen to and perfect as background music when working. Definitely for fans of the bands I mentioned, with gentle soundscapes and bubbling sounds that slowly change as the lengthy songs proceed.I love it.

Wow, was für ein Deathmetal-Brett der progressiven Extraklasse. ;-)Nein, natürlich ein Scherz.Was Blood Incantation hier abliefern ist ein sehr inspiriertes, beachtliches und qualitativ sehr hochwertiges Dark Ambient-Album. Referenzen sehe ich hier vor allem bei den deutschen Klassikern, wie Tangerine Dream (Atem, Zeit), oder Klaus Schulze (Irrlicht, Mirage). Was früher auch als Kosmische Musik bezeichnet wurde und das passt ja dann auch wieder zu Blood Incantation. Die Verbindung zwischen Ambient und härteren Gangarten des Metal hat durchaus Tradition.Beispiel: So war Euronymous von Mayhem ein großer Fan der sogenannten Berliner Schule und was darunter so vom Musikfeuilleton subsumiert wurde (Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Conrad Schnitzler, usw.). Im Film "Lords Of Chaos", welcher die Black Metal-Szene der 90er in Norwegen zum Thema hat spielt Euronymous (gespielt von Rory Culkin) in einer der letzten Szenen in seiner Wohnung eine Tangerine Dream-Platte ab. Zudem ist das Intro der Deathcrush-EP von Mayhem von Conrad Schnitzler exklusiv zur Verfügung gestellt worden.Auch Blood Incantation haben die ruhigeren Passagen auf ihren früheren Alben auf Basis solcher Musik komponiert. Insofern mangelt es diesem Output durchaus nicht an Konsequenz im Schaffen von Blood Incantation. Auch wenn ich verstehe, dass der ein oder andere Fan sehr enttäuscht ist, da natürlich etwas anderes erwartet wurde. Und klar: Für viele die mit solcher Musik auch sonst nichts anfangen können hört sich das genauso an wie fast alles andere in dieser Musiksparte. Je nachdem welche Deathmetal-Platten ich meiner Schwester vorspiele wird die aber auch sagen , dass sich alles gleich anhört.Fazit:Natürlich kein Deathmetal. Aber fantastischer, sehr facettenreicher und trotz aller Referenzen sehr eigener Dark Ambient, welcher für mich in der musikalischen Qualität der anderen Musik von Blood Incantation in Nichts nachsteht.

Als ich die Rezensionen einiger "Metalfans" las, musste ich unwillkürlich lachen. Wie eingeschränkt die Wahrnehmung und Toleranz der Szene doch sein kann...da macht eine Band mal was anderes als sonst, experimentiert und bringt ein Genre atypisches Album raus und schon weinen die harten Fans wie kleine Kinder denen man das Eis weggenommen hat. Aber...dieses Album ist ein unglaublich gut gelungener Tribut an die Dark Ambient- und Electronic Szene der alten Garde. Das Blood Incantation sich getraut haben, der heutigen, meiner Meinung nach sehr intoleranten Metalszene, ein solches Album zu präsentieren...mein Respekt. Und ein großes Lob für ein total gelungenes Klangerlebnis. Man braucht Zeit für diese Scheibe und man muss Willens sein sich drauf einzulassen...dann hat man 69 min feinste Klangteppiche und ein Gefühl des totalen Abschalten können. Sehr gut gemacht. Ein Top Album mit einer zusätzlichen DVD zur visuellen Unterstützung. Hat sich gelohnt der Kauf. Aber absolut nur was für Metalheads die nicht schon völlig abgestumpft sind.
