Definitive Soul

I only knew a couple of songs by Booker T & the MGs when I ordered this. So I had no idea what to expect except for the other reviews of different albums. This album is filled with songs that are every bit as good as Green Onions and Time Is Tight. These songs all have a very "tight" sound that seems to be very distinctive of the group. I did not know that an instrumental group could have a "sound" as distinctive as say AC/DC or Led Zepplin has on their rock music. The songs are very 1960's, very fun, very cool and classy. Many of the songs are so good I am suprised that this group is not more popular. They really should receive more airplay with the other songs, but that will be your bonus if you discover this album, getting to hear good songs you otherwise would not know. I am always concerned with sound quality and I like the mastering on this CD. The background noise is all gone, the instruments are all clear, and someone has finally gotten smart and not cranked the bass out of proportion as has been done on a lot of remasters of 60's and 70's music. There is a nice insert with a little band history, pictures, song release dates, and chart rankings. Do yourself a favor, if your in the market for a greatest hits, buy this 2 CD version and get the extra good songs.

If the compilers had taken a little more time and trouble they could have made this a great collection. Just a few more songs from each of the albums like "You Can't Sit Down", "Plum Nellie" or "Heads Or Tails" would have done the trick. They had the space on the CD's!

OK, everybody knows these guys were later the rhythm section for The Blues Bros.Way before that, though, they were a burst of soulful cool on an otherwise predictable am radio dial. Really good to hear this stuff again. By the way, this is a pretty definitive set.

What can you say about one of the classics? Since we got this in the Amazon box we've kept it on top of the kitchen CD player and use it often, both for close listening and for background while doing housework. It will be going in the car for upcoming road trips of course.

You cannot go wrong with Booker T

All the hits and it's mixed well. Good for a trip to the past;. American Graffiti is one of my favorite movies anyway.

I love THIS DOUBLE CD! Booker T & Co. never sounded so great! It has some great tunes I never heard of before. I'm glad I purcased it. Also, the price is cheap for a double CD from such a great group!

Instrumental performances that cannot possibly be matched. Outstanding sound, rythm and style. You've got to have it. About the songs enlisted: FANTASTIC! I am truly delighted for having ordered it.

But I can always find some to listen to this, I've got a Hammond, but I wish I could play like Booker T.

I really wanted to hear Time is Tight again as you never hear it on the radio - brings back memories of the sixties, always the last number played at the local disco!
