Loved it with a caveat
I’m a huge fan of James. Love his quick, down to business style. Love the various twists… I spend my time guessing how it will end… this book very much delivers on all counts! One caveat. While extremely sad, and makes you feel very much for Grace, I was somewhat unsure about the Bruno story that doesn’t really connect with the story enough. Yes it shows Grace’s personal life and humanity, but was it necessary to have his son - spoiler - die?

Gripping
I have been eyeballing Peter James books for years. But after enjoying the GRACE series with John Sim, I gave them a new shot. And fell in love with the story & more importantly the characters.

Thrilling read that doesn’t disappoint.
Thrilling read that keeps the detectives and the reader guessing until the end. Another thread for Grace is weaved during the book too.

Intricate, twisty, and clever!
Left You Dead is a well written, perfectly paced police procedural that sees Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and his team investigating the sudden disappearance of Eden Paternoster, a young woman who seems to have vanished without a trace after her husband dropped her off at a local Tesco, and even though the husband seems to be the most likely suspect from the very start something just doesn’t seem to fit, and this case may actually be a lot more complicated than anyone could have imagined. The writing is effortless and smooth. The characters are devious, astute, and committed. And the plot, including all the subplots, unravel and intertwine into a mysterious tale full of twists, turns, manipulation, deception, desperation, red herrings, police politics, familial drama, and personal tragedy.Overall, Left You Dead is addictive, crafty, slightly emotional, and unbelievably already the seventeenth novel in the Roy Grace series and even though this one is a little meatier at just over 500 pages, I still have yet to read a book by James that didn’t captivate, satisfy, and highly entertain me and I’m happy to say this latest one is also no exception.

Loved loved loveeeed it!
Couldn’t have been better! Peter James is one of my favorite authors. Roy Grace and Glenn Branson both are my kind if characters. They’re very smart, funny in a wise way, great at their job and I really love them. The plot was surprising in many ways but I’ll leave my comment that way to not ruin for others. Enjoy every page as probably the next one will be published only next year. Thank you Peter James to turn my life more interesting!

Some frustrations with this book
I have been loving the more recent books (I’m reading them all in order) but found this book to be repetitive at times, for example a character relating to another what we, the reader, already know. I also found the antagonist to be predictable from the moment they were depicted. On a separate note, and I don’t want to spoil this for anyone who has not yet read the book, I did not like the elimination of a character who seemed to be too problematic to keep developing. Although the character was complex the method of elimination seems to me unrealistic and I wonder if this character was simply eliminated to make the process of writing, going forward, easier.

At it again!!
At it again. Another splendid read. It’s a shame that I have to wait another year until the next one.Enjoyable read from start to finish. I thought you dealt with the transplant issue very sympathetically and caused a few tugs at the heart strings whilst reading.Well done again.
