Delightful, hilarious, brave and so real — well done Half Pint!
I loved the story of how a run down little house became a shelter for her and her husband when it was needed most. All of us struggled with the pandemic and it was super relatable and brought back a lot of memories, good and bad. Her love of family, animals, and dang good food is clear, and I particularly like the occasional moments of chaos and drama, that she learns to take in stride. And a few parts genuinely made me laugh... like when she got a live chipmunk attached to her finger and drove with it to have it removed in the most humane way possible. The parts about aging as a woman were fantastic and the only bad reviews here say it's too political... but it's barely political! There are just still some fans of the dumb orange guy who don't like that she's honest about who she doesn't support. Good for her! She totally does not come off as out-of-touch at all, quite the opposite. More celebs like the OG half pint please!

Another great book!
I thought this was another well written and funny book! Don't believe all the negative political comments, it's all blown out of proportion as usual. It's 1% of the book, and not a political rant, just some of her feelings about what's going on in the workd. But she is entitled to Her opinion, it is Her book, so get over your "persecution" complex people! You're the ones who can't handle a difference of opinion. And I've heard others, including Obama and Biden, called much worse by DJT and his party, so your hypocrisy is overdone. This is the story of the new changes in her life for the better, and how she and her husband navigated the pandemic together with their family. Being the same age as her, I can relate to a lot of what she's gone through, and found it inspiring how they've changed their lives getting back to nature after their city lifestyles. She's a very strong woman, and I appreciate her philosophy on life and her caring for other people and animals. I think it was a very positive and hopeful book through it all, with everything that's gone on the last several years, and she's kept her sense of humor too! I've watched the Little House series since it started because I loved the books so much and still do. The series had alot of good life lessons we can all learn something from, especially kindness and caring about others, not just ourselves. Let's start practicing what we preach a little more about these values to make it a better world for Everyone! Thank you Melissa for a great book and enjoy living your best life!

I liked the first half of this book.
This book was great reading the first half, however the second half got kind of boring and slowed down when she started to talk politics and covid. But I read it all, it was worth reading.

Not what I thought it'd be
I had thought this book would be similar to her first book. This is full of politics and covid. Its not a bad book. But I really don't care about her politics

Don't believe the negative bot reviews
I'm a political independent who hasn't followed Ms. Gilbert's career or watched her shows. I happened to stumble across this Amazon listing randomly, but became genuinely alarmed at the lack of critical thinking in each of the negative reviews. All of them are purportedly written out of anger that the author doesn't support Donald Trump. Are these reviews really written by humans, or by Russian bots? A few examples of these displays of ignorance:1) "When will celebrities realize we don't care what they think?"- Donald Trump was a reality TV performer who had never held political office, and you presumably voted for him. So you clearly do care what celebrities with zero expertise think.2) "I was offended that Melissa Gilbert called Donald Trump 'the orange turd.'"- It was Donald Trump himself who erased civility and lowered the U.S. political system into the mud by assigning offensive nicknames to everyone under the sun ("Crooked Hillary," anyone?) So you don't mind your guy dishing it out, but you can't handle him receiving the same treatment?3) "She talked about how the insurrectionists were bad, but not the George Floyd protesters."- There is no equating the two. When it comes to police brutality, why are you more upset by property damage than by the repeated torture and murder of black citizens, as seen on multiple videos? Your priorities are entirely skewed. Members of the black community are being murdered by officers with authority who are almost never held accountable. There is no justice for them through the legal system. What if BLACK supremacists were police officers and were killing WHITE citizens with impunity and almost no consequences? Would you understand the rage then? The January 6 insurrectionists, on the other hand ... were just upset that they'd lost an election. The two issues are not at all the same. What the Capitol rioters did was treason, and proved that they don't care at all about law and order if it doesn't serve their purposes. These are just a few examples of the inanity shown in this item's negative reviews. If indeed Trump supporters are that unable to understand logic, then they shouldn't be able to lower the revenue from this author's book. So I have purchased this book solely to support Ms. Gilbert, and will be telling every intelligent person I know to do the same.

Thank you Melissa! I couldn't put it down!
I will recommend this book to others. I had read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and so enjoyed the little House on the Prairie. I live at the edge of the Paris in Great Falls MT. I have your love of animals my best buds are standard Poodles. I also identify with your chronic pain.In 2006 I had two cataracts removed and a week of having the last one out, she died of cancer. Four months later I had a back fusion of sac rum thru L2. Six months later I had two total knees the same day(l wouidn,t recommend this. It was the hardest recovery of all. I have had another vetrabrae added to my lower back and a neck fusion. I spent 391\2 years working as a RN. The last 12 years as a hospice nurse, I felt like I had finally found my home,. I would share more with you but it's to personal for here. Susan Volf

Refreshing, honest, candid and just loved it.
When I was a youngster, mid 70s, I always watched Little House on the Prairie. The relationships between Laura “Half-Pint” Ingall’s, and her family, were always a pleasure to watch.Roll forward in time, and Melissa, who is a New York Times, bestselling author, comes back to rejoin the literary world with this gem.Melissa uses ‘Back to the Prairie’ to narrate her life. The life that is a journey from neck surgery, botox, veneers and designer clothes, all the way to a house in the Catskills, dirty nails and DIY.Melissa shares the route through the Catskills remodel. Squirrels, bears, chickens and deer, are just a few things she encounters with her husband.Melissa is not afraid to discuss her good points and bad points through the book, and that is great to see. Too many autobiographies gloss over the bad, in order to make the read that little more appealing to the public. That’s not Melissa. She will tell you she had Botox and couldn’t express herself. She will tell you she dyed her hair. She will tell you she fought the ageing process. But the best part of all…she will happily tell you she knew enough was enough. She knew she was willing trade it all for DIY, dirty finger nails, remodelling, growing food and raising animals.Melissa’s husband is Timothy Busfield. West Wing alum, Thirty something star, director, and writer. These two are soulmates and through the words on every page, it is evident. The relationship they have, bouncing ideas off each other, finishing each other’s sentences, similar thoughts, all cementing that soulmate feeling. Through Melissa’s beautiful writing, it’s easy to see that he is the calm to her worry. He is the Yang to her Yang and so on. If Melissa has a question or worry, Tim has the answer.I loved the book. The style of writing was perfect. The honesty and candour was sublime and so refreshing. There was no glossing over any hard times. It’s easy to see which bits of Melissa’s life have been incredibly hard and which have been near perfection. Sometimes in books, it can be easy to skip parts that drag you down. This doesn’t. Not at all.I’ve seen some reviews that wish there was more “Little House” information in the book. I disagree. The book isn’t about Little House, Little House was the smallest part of her life. The book is about Melissa. Thats where the focus should stay and where the focus remains throughout the book.Though my political views differ from Melissas, it in no way impacts on the view of this book. Everyone has their own opinions of the world and what happens in it. Melissa was quite right to share her own views. This book is her life.I did smile at one piece though……when Melissa went into the cinema with the ‘buttered popcorn and sour patch kids’….I thought to myself, “you’re my kind of friend Melissa, that’s me all over!”Highly recommended.

I’ve been a fan of Little House since I was a little girl and I still watch the show almost daily! This book is filled with truth, humour, wit, and pure Laura Ingalls spunk. Thank you for an amazing read, Melissa!
