Delightful and easy to follow
This is a lovely book with so many wonderful ideas, as is to be expected from Debbie Brown. The projects aren't for the faint hearted but with the step by step instructions life is made a lot easier. The only problem I had with this book was that my daughter couldn't decide which cake she liked best! Definitely recommend.

A Brilliant Novelty Cake book
I have collected a lot of Debbie Brown's Cake books. Apart from her latest Baby Cake book (2011), I think this is one of the best books she had published. For beginners, this is a must have tutorial book. For veterans, this is a good reference material on your bookshelves! Highly recommended!

Super cute
Another great children's cake book from Debbie. I'm looking forward to making Thomas cakes! Instructions are easy to follow I think although some knowledge of caking is very helpful.

Experience in Carving is a Must!
I own about four Debbie Brown books, have successfully made quite a few cakes from them and have always understood the instructions. However, Thomas the Tank Engine really tried my patience. I found the instructions for carving quite vague - and there was quite a bit of carving. As this is probably the most important bit of the cake I think that step by step instructions with photos would have helped greatly. It is a very fiddly cake to make with lots of little things to make and cut out and it took quite a few hours to decorate.I also feel that this cake is not for the novice, although I can't comment on any of the other cakes in this book yet.Have to say though that the recipient was delighted with the finished cake.

Another great book by Debbie Brown
I bought this book to make my Grandson the Thomas the Tank Engine cake. I couldn't make out the instructions for the shaping of the cake, no matter how many times I read it so in the end I had to judge by the photograph which worked okay. Thomas turned out fine but not quite like Debbie's, the cakes in the book are so perfect to look at and I found it impossible to be that precise, especially the wheels. It all looks so much easier than it is. My Grandson was pleased though so it was worth the effort. I own a few of Debbie Brown's books, my favorite is the 50 easy party cakes, much easier for my limited experience!!

Another winner!
I am often asked to make 'character' cakes for chidlrens' birthdays, and am very glad to have invested in this book. The cakes are lovely, the modelling instructions are foolproof. I feel sure that even the most inexperienced decorator could make great little figures following the excellent and detailed instructions in this fab book.

Really not for beginners
Lovely book with lots of lovely pictures however the instructions are rather ambiguous at times therefore I ended up doing my own thing and following the pictures on a number of occasions.I did end up with a (slightly odd looking)Thomas cake that my son adored (and cried when we tried to cut into it!), but I shan't be giving up my day job on the back of this.I also found that the quantity of icing required was far too much and I now have a box full of unused icing packages.

Only for extremely detailed icing makers!
I bought this as I wanted to make a Percy cake for my son's birthday. However, I had planned to make it with butter icing, but this book is purely focused on hard-core icing. Fine if that's what you're after, but it wasn't for me.
