The pictures and content are great but the tiny
The pictures and content are great but the tiny, tiny print is a huge turnoff! I bought it for my grandson but don't think he should strain his eyes to read it. What a shame!

An excellent reference, but...difficult to read
This book is packed with information; however, it's a pity that the font is so small; at below 8-point in something like Arial, it's barely readable. Sidebars are in smaller font. Is font choice an effort to save paper? The rock identification chart covering two pages contains pictures that are only 2/8" by 3/8 inches. This is unusable. Larger photos of rock fragments are easier to see, accompanied by tiny text that includes grain size, texture, structure, color, composition, phenocrysts, formation, and notable occurrences. Photos of andesite and stony meteorite are so similar as to be unhelpful. I have yet to see a rock/mineral book that lines up similar-looking rocks, e.g., diorite and white granite, with clear explanation how they differ. PLUS side: of the 30+ books about rocks I have read in my county library system, this is the only book identifying and explaining greenstone and greensand stones. I live in an ancient terminal moraine and find an abundance of greenish rocks in my yard. PLUS side is that the first 48 pages contain excellent explanation of how rocks are made. This section is a must-read.

Disappointed that this is an exact copy of the material contained within "Rocks, Minerals and Fossils of the World". I was hoping it would be in more depth, but now I just have a book I don't need! Should be explained in the product description.

An Average Presentation
As an owner of a crystal/mineral shop I'm constantly purchasing books for my own edification and then they go to customer reference. This provides basic information , but is limited in scope. .
