A mystery unraveled
A remarkable tale of faith, hope, and redemption. Also, a mystery of lo these many years involving the storied battleground at Gettysburg and one of its heroes that has finally been unraveled. It is a story that generates a host of emotions from curiosity to astonishment. Anyone who loves a good mystery will find this tale to their liking. The author's investigative work merits our recognition and gratitude. He has brought to light the life of an exceptionally talented and resourceful individual who had only been dwelling in the shadows of history.

Good book!!
I did enjoy it and actually learned a lot about Gettysburg from this book. I was hoping for a little more romance but I just like romance and should have thought about how there might be a lot of information that wasn’t available. Overall I enjoyed it!

Lost love is correct. Ll
Book is good for beginners. Lots on Reynolds and short on Kate Hewitt. Guess that’s the lost part. One thing interesting: never heard of her being a prostitute. Question that

Part romance... part mystery! ALL historically accurate!
A fascinating read. Mr. Harding's writing style makes history come alive. He does a great job of "leaving you in suspense" at the end of each chapter. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Kate. I highly recommend this book!

From historian to novice, there is something for everyone in this book!
Harding weaves a masterful tale that strikes the right balance between historical documentary and adventure story. He brings the known and unknown stories of Kate Hewitt and John Reynolds to life and allows the reader a glimpse into their humanity. Amazing discoveries abound in this page turner wrought with misfortune and heartbreak, yet never allowing the reader to despair. I couldn’t put it down! If someone were to write down the story of my life, I'd want it to be Jeff. A brilliant book backed by painstaking research.

Enjoyable and Informative Read with Romantic Intrigue
This book is a great way to learn about the lives of both Kate Hewitt and John Reynolds and related events of the period. The chapters alternate between John and Kate's worlds, bringing their lives together and intertwining them for a time. Ultimately, Kate lived a pretty incredible life in her own right that one might not have known, if not for this book. Additionally, this book gives a good backdrop of John Reynolds and of related military history. It's interesting to see how Reynolds grew in mindset and developed as a leader through the battle experiences. The historic photos sprinkled throughout pulls you into the time period. The author uses a conversational style that lends itself well to readable, investigative historic nonfiction. He succinctly covers the bases, working around the options that lead to validating the historical reasoning given for the conclusions drawn. Kudos to Jeff Harding for taking on this little-known piece of history and uncovering Kate’s story!

A Must Read For Readers Interested in the Reynolds-Hewitt Relationship
This is a wonderful little book. How many mysteries are there in the Civil War that linger on until today without resolution? Thanks to Jeffrey Harding, one of the most significant ones for many (I can imagine the eye-rolling emojis to the contrary), especially related to Gettysburg, is the fate of John Reynolds’ fiancée, Kate Hewitt. While certainly not resolving all questions many (and I) have, Harding definitively establishes her life after Reynolds’ death, leading to a few surprises. Perhaps even more surprising is Kate’s uncovered life in California before meeting Reynolds on a ship. The author is to be congratulated for doing an enormous amount of research (assisted by an acknowledged genealogist) in uncovering details otherwise buried under the weight of the past. The book is enriched by many photographs and drawings that greatly enhanced the account. Kudos to the author for excavating them from so long ago. This book is a true labor of love in different ways. Harding is to be congratulated on his diligence and tenacity into bringing this book into print. As reviewers need to be honest about any flaws in a book they admire, here is my only complaint. At times, the prose in this book became more melodramatic and overwrought than I would have preferred. The facts alone are dramatic enough without excessive gloss.Anyone interested in the long-debated relationship between John Reynolds and Kate Hewitt and her post-war life MUST read this fascinating book.
