Could not put this down
I'd have given this zero stars if I could have. I'm so triggered. Can you believe she said....I'm exaggerating, but I find the one star reviews um... odd.I could not put this book down. It was so much more than I expected. There is a lot of information about Jerusalem, the Temple, and the Crucifixion itself, but the best part for me was the overall picture she painted that put the whole thing into perspective. I realize now how little I knew and understood of what actually happened, or what it meant.

A broad perspective and details on the most important events of history
I was so impressed with the amount of detail that was in this book covering basically the last week of Jesus' life. The author's background in law is just the beginning. She comes to this subject with expertise in ancient Roman and Jewish law and culture, and is a Greek Orthodox believer, so her perspective on this topic is broad and thorough. After literally a lifetime of Sermons, Sunday School, Bible School, and personal Bible Study, it was really exciting to learn new aspects that impacted this most important narrative.I can say the the only thing that I had a quibble with was her repeated assertion that Isaac was Abraham's "only begotten son", but since she was trying to draw the prophetic parallel to make a point that God always provides the lamb, I figured I could overlook that.I will warn that some of the medical aspects of the crucifixion can be a bit graphic, but I did not feel it was unnecessarily gratuitous.Excellent Book!

Extraordinary Analysis
With her unique set of qualifications, Eugenia Scarvelis Constantinou offers an in-depth yet highly readable analysis of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Her multiple credentials as attorney, Biblical scholar, and theologian combine to form a rich account of the final week of Jesus' life, and to explain and flesh out the surrounding events and historical settings.Strongly recommended!

I fell in love.
I love this book. I have marked and starred and underlined many passages. It has brought Christ alive for me. I've read the bible many times, but I find it dull, boring. This book shows me how much God loves me and I fell in love with Christ for the first time. There is so much information in the book - Jeannie really knows her stuff! I now tune in to her podcasts and they add even more information. As for people who say it is too graphic, revisit the title of the book.I have almost finished, but I plan on starting it over so I can really install the info into my oh!-so-forgetful brain.

Holy Week will never be the same
This book is so readable and so informative. I found every chapter to be a treasure, from the meaning of the things Pilate said, to what the Jewish temple was like and what it meant, to the significance of the clothes Jesus wore. Dr. Jeannie describes what crucifixion meant at the time and how it was used by the Romans, and gives us a picture of what Jesus suffered without going into unnecessarily gory details. I highly recommend this book, and I plan to read it again every Lent.

Splendid and detailed recounting of a fabulous week!
You can see from the photo how much I enjoyed this deep look into Holy Week! I enjoyed it so much I scrapped my Bible study plans for Holy Week, took 23-pages of notes, and led a wonderful and rich discussion. I can't tell you how much I learned and how much I thought about Holy Week in a deeper way in 2022. Thank you, Dr. Jeannie!
