Chunky, basic design, sounds okay but not great. Some issues. Not bad, not great overall.
This Uke is well constructed and had good fit and finish for the ~$100 range. However, I found a couple things disappointing. First and most important is the sound. It is not full-bodied or robust. The harmonics are not as nice as some cheaper laminate mahogany Uke's I own. It sounds a little tinny in comparison to an instrument with more pleasant harmonics in the body. The simplicity of the shape and design probably does effect the overall sound. The body is one depth throughout and has a flat back. Simple, basic design. Also, the fretboard is SUPER thick (twice as thick as average), which means if you are used to ever touching the front of the instrument while you play you will need to adjust/recalibrate your positioning a little. The 2x thick fretboard also sort of gives the uke a low-cost, unrefined look to me (which is okay I guess).Overall, I would suggest not buying this solid spruce top version as it honestly does not sound as good as a laminate mahogany for less money like this: (this cheap Oscar Schmidt has a better sounding body curved back body and a thinner laminate top that has better pickup, reverb, and amplitude than the Makai soid spruce https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078MQQYRH).I also found the closed back tuners to have too little friction -- they are easily disturbed.I do like the thickness of the neck and overall build. As competitive as this market is these days, you can find a better uke for less money. It's okay, but not great.

Three stars for now. Not sure if I’m liking it. I don’t know if this is true for all new ukes but since receiving this yesterday I’ve had to constantly tune it. Middle of playing it sounds odd. Grab my tuner and sure enough it’s out of tune. I will update again in a couple of weeks whether this works itself out

Great Uke.
My less expensive Uke, but my favorite. Once new strings have stretched, it stays in tune quite nicely.

Cheap, bright, clean, pleasure to play.
My wife just bought me a Makai MT-70 from a shop in Malaysia for a wedding gift, and I have to say I love it. The tone is rich and clean, and it's nice and loud. It also stays in tune well because of the sealed-gear tuning pegs. It's a pretty little uke and for the price it is quite nice. I can't stop playing it. Love it. Two thumbs up.
