A different take on the story
I noticed a wide range of opinion on this version of Jekyll and Hyde. All seem to agree that the bluray quality is excellent but dispute whether this version or the earlier 1932 version is better. I am very happy to see both available on bluray, but admit that I find the earlier Frederich March version to be more entertaining and a superior film. Some commented on Tracy giving a good performance without all of the make-up, as was used in the Frederich March version. However, let's remember that in the novel, the transformation to Hyde is physical as well as mental. If I recall correctly, Hyde is a regression to an almost ape-like form and the regression increases with each transformation. His head also become smaller and pointed at the top which is duplicated in the Frederich March make-up. This makes the 1932 version closer to the novel. Aside from that, the pre-code period of the March version makes it a more interesting film, loaded with Hyde's deviant desires. However, if you are fan of the Jekyll and Hyde story the early 1920 Barrymore version is a must see and is a closer competitor to the 1932 version.

1941 Spencer Tracy Version
Warner Archive releases on Blu-ray the 1941 version of 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" starring Spencer Tracy in the dual role, a remake of the 1932 version starring Frederic March, who had won a Best Actor Academy Award in the dual role. That earlier version is far superior in every way to the newer one however, which is the chief problem here. Otherwise, this HD restoration is in pristine shape, and will appeal to those who still like the 1941 film. Originally released in 2004 on a snapper case DVD as a double-sided, double feature with the 1932 film, porting over that theatrical trailer, though nothing new was added. The 1932 film is rumored to be coming from Warner Archive soon, the restoration on that taking longer, and that will be most welcome news indeed.

A Great Piece of Forgotten Movie Love Gone Bad.
This Blu-ray Looks Outstanding! It’s Funning to see an Old Movie, that Is Simple in Nature with The Sets and Effects, to have such a magnetic Pull to keep you Entertained.Today with all the Money they pour into A-List Actors, Set Design, Lighting Techniques, Highfalutin Writers and the Tons of Hours put into Special Effects, can’t Compare to the Story Telling of the Black and White Filmed Era.
