Inside each cell is an FDA-approved chemical mix that mixes with water to create a gel. This changes the "phase" of the water, which then allows the gel inside each cell to store thermal energy down to -42°F. This means that the ice blankets stay colder that plain ice. We have been shipping fresh and frozen meat for over 7 years in transit times up to 4 days in any ambient temperature.
