The scale on the graduated cylinder is wrong. It reports twice the depth actually caught. I became suspicious when my readings were drastically higher than all the local reports. A little simple math: A*D=V. Area of the inlet is 25.6cm^2. Last night's rain measured 3.2 cm. So I should have captured 82mL. But I caught 40mL, which corresponds to a depth of 1.6cm. So there you have it - as long as you divide the measurement on the cylinder by 2 you'll be good to go.Oh, and what the other reviewers said about the parts not going together correctly - I had the same issue, until I realized that the bearing is meant to be sandwiched between the two shafts. I expected that the bearing would slip over the shaft. Weird, but ok. Don't bother trying to sand/grind down the shaft to get it to go into the bearing.

This is not designed for the elements. The bearing is not sealed causing rust after the first rain. After 3 weeks, it no longer spins. Would not recommend.

Does collect rain accurately but leans over in a breeze easily. It took time and lubrication to get the cups to spin properly.
