Disappointing
Asking to take over a series of books because the original writer has sadly died is a big ask. It's a huge job but also immensely flattering, I would have thought. I do not pretend to be a writer/researcher or anything similar. I just buy books to enjoy the escapism and the historical relevant facts interspersed with a good story. I cannot fathom why there are so many mistakes in this book. I would have thought the writer given the task to carry on with this series, which was wonderful did not research the other three books that Annie wrote. There are so many mistakes that I cannot begin to list them. It's as if she did not read the previous three, she cannot have done. In the foreward to the book the writer has been given such a warm thankyou, but in my opinion the book is a big fail and a big disappointment. I would not have been proud to have produced this. The characters have undergone a complete change in personalities, the story does not tally and the final book in this series I cannot even be bothered to read. So disappointing that I had to skim the last couple of chapters because quite frankly it was making me really angry to read it. I shan't be reading the final one that Sheila wrote, it would be such a waste of time.

Great read
I Read this on the kindleThis is the 4th book in the Article Row seriesThe author of the series before this has died so this & the last one in the series is written by a different author using notes ect of Annie GrovesThis was a very good one as everything has changed for Tilly who joined the Army after her boyfriend Drew has gone back to the USA, Agnes finds out that her parents were married her fiancé Ted is letting his mum come between them by when he going to see her something comes up so that he can't go, Dulcie who is expecting married David he can't father a child he is & has been in love with Dulcie so offers to marry her when she tells him that she expecting, Sally her fiancé who is a doctor has joined the Navy, she has her half sister after her father & her best friend who married her father was killed in a air raid on Liverpool. Then you have Olive who is the mother hen is getting feels for the police Sgt DawsonYou then have the extremely nosey neighbour Nancy she the sort you would never speak to in case she gossiping about you or othersThis is such a good series you don't really notice that a different writer had done itThat said in a couple of places paragraphs had been repeated also at the beginning Tilly's age is given as 18 but you are on in years on from the 2 book when she is 18 but those few mistakes didn't detract from the book so much so that I already have the next & last book

A beautiful tribute to a wonderful author...
Only A Mother Knows by Annie Groves for me was a wonderful read which was written in memory of an author who I constantly followed as I loved each of her books. When I heard she had sadly passed away I wondered what would happen to the Article Row series based on the lives of Olive and the girls she doted on especially her daughter Tilly. At the beginning of the book the publishers gives the reader a beautiful tribute to Annie Grove and it this book was dedicated to a wonderful author as we get our own goodbye. The publishers in my opinion choose the perfect author to finish this series when they chose Sheila Riley as I progressed through the book I was immediately brought back to the world which Annie Groves created and I was once again back in Article Row as I followed each of the girls as they coped with the rations and the constant threat of the bombs landing on the city which they adored. Why I liked this foreword so much was the publishers are keen to let Annie's many fans know that Annie Groves(Penny Halsall) had already planned how this series was going to continue, therefore we as Annie's readers still follow her own plans for the many characters living in Article Row which even included the dreaded Nancy Black who the new author fully understood and I had to laugh at times as her tongue is still as caustic as ever.As a reader I loved each of the characters which I have followed from the first book in this wonderful series and as Olive had to slowly release the apron strings of her darling daughter Tilly as her relationship with the gorgeous American Drew. But Tilly has her own growing up to do and she had her own problems to face, though at times I felt she was exchanging one protector of her Mother for another one in Drew but as we all know authors have a wonderful way of showing us readers how the characters grow and develop through a series of books and as a reader I was not disappointed on how the author took each of the characters especially Tilly as she has her own place in fighting the Germans. Dulcie also has her own problems but has she got her happy ever after, I do hope so though a face from the past has come back to hunt her but Dulcie has finally grown up and realised what happiness and the feeling of being in love really feels like therefore us readers will have to wait for the next book to see will Dulcie's happiness continue. Agnes is still as shy but she finally gets the one thing she always wanted, I will not spoil it for other readers but I promise this was a perfect present for Agnes as she slowly builds her confidence she has her own shadows to face but will she like what she finds when the lights finally start to show her what her life is really based on? Sally still is guardian of her wee sister Alice who she now realises her life would not be complete without having her baby half-sister in her life but the war still rages and brings many problems to Olive's door. One thing I will say this is truly another wonderful book in this series which is the perfect legacy which will last for ever in the name of Annie Groves as her name will never be forgotten as her writing is too good for us readers to ever let go.I highly recommend Only a Mother Knows by Annie Groves as a wonderful read which was the perfect book for us readers to follow the lives of Olive and her girls and the other inhabitants of Article Row. This book has everything that Annie Groves as an author had in her earlier books and as a reader you will not be disappointed. I am now looking forward to the next book in the series A Promise for Christmas though in a way I will be sad to read it as I know this will be the final book from a wonderful author who has filled so many hearts through her vivid and wonderful writing. The earlier books in the series are as follows.1. London Belles 2. Home for Christmas 3. My Sweet Valentine: Article Row Series, Book 3 4. Only a Mother Knows 5. A Christmas Promise this one will be published in October 2013 London BellesHome for ChristmasMy Sweet Valentine: Article Row Series, Book 3Only a Mother KnowsA Christmas Promise

Disappointed 😞
Was so disappointed with this book, Sheila Riley who wrote this book after the original author Annie Groves died has totally ruined this saga for me. Half way through the book I had to stop it made me so mad. The characters had completely changed, an she had made lots of mistakes I don't think she read the first 3 books at all! The opening chapter starts off with Olive not wanting Tilly and Drew to have a week away together, when in the last book it was Olives idea! These things just ruined it for me and I won't bother with book 5. I felt badly for Annie as she's such a fab author and this just wasn't up to get level, sad.
