Eye Opener about Reiki!
Very good read. It told the story of Reiki. So different than western. I prefer Japanese Reiki, now. This book was an eye opener.

An invaluable Reiki history and resource
This is a wonderful book on the history of Reiki. It is written by a Japanese author who first learned Western Reiki, and then Jikiden Reiki as well. It is a fascinating read and I appreciate the author's writing style. He also shares differences/similarities in the Western and Japanese approach to Reiki in a non-judgmental fashion. The author has a PhD and an academic background in physics and astronomy, which is unique as well. Highly recommended!

Full of interesting historical documents and excellent analysis, this book is an easy read that ...
Nishina-san's book is a must-read for Reiki practitioners of all lineages. It provides an accurate cultural and historical context for the development and practice of Reiki during its inception in Japan, as well as comparing and contrasting how and why Western Reiki branched off. Full of interesting historical documents and excellent analysis, this book is an easy read that will be especially valuable for Western readers seeking a deeper relationship with the system of Reiki.

Interesting addition to our known history of reiki
Definitely something that every practitioner should add to their bookshelf. Some minor typos but one glaring item that needs to be addressed is the TOC is repeated in this version.

Good facts but bias inserted
I loved the bird’s eye view to compare and contrast traditional Japanese reiki and Western reiki. I enjoyed the factual nature of some chapters that allowed for some parts of the book to be informative. The author did provide a disclaimer that he would be critical of Western reiki; however, the strange references to McDonald’s, Christianity and Star Wars paired with the clear bias against western culture almost creates a caricature of Westerners. It made me laugh but perhaps in the unintended way. I enjoy that Nishina can speak from a place of experience, but, as a Western reiki practitioner who shares the same sentiment as the author, he has made a lot of false statements about my lineage at least, which goes to show how truly intricate the branches of the Western lineage has developed over time. I would say the content of this book is only partially true in this regard due to the opinions and generalizations of the author.

A MUST for every reiki practitioner
THis is so detailed and well written that I could only read a couple pages a day in order to digest the amount of new information not readily available to us in the west especially in regards to the history of reiki in relation to what was happening in Japan at the time. For history buffs or reiki practitioners, this is a MUST. I recommend this book to every student as one of my top three reiki books to own.

Great book!
Great book to learn more about the origin of Reiki and the japanese culture in which it "happened" (you will understand if you read this wonderful book).

Eccellente!
Finalmente vengono rivelate molte verità sull'insegnamento della terapia Reiki e su coloro che lo hanno insegnato in America e in Giappone. Assolutamente da leggere!

Assumptions re western practice are not correct for all.
I liked the information regarding Reiki in Japan very much in terms of cultural context. What I didn't like was the assumption that all Reiki teachers in the west have modified teachings and practices - this is true in many cases, but certainly not all. I found the tone condescending at times, but this may be a translation issue rather than something intended by the author. It's worthwhile reading for westerners, but some will be offended by the one-size-fits-all-western-reiki approach.

A book for those interested in reiki practice
This book is an excellent read , especially for those with an interest in Reiki in its original Eastern form. It is one of several that has inspired me to now solely teach the eastern style of reiki at my centre

Vielen Dank Masaki Nishina.
