HolbeinArtist Gouache Set : 18 x 5ml tubes

I'm so in love with this gouache set I stopped in the middle of my painting to write this review!Having mainly worked in inks, watercolor, and marker and never using gouache before this set I suppose I can't really compare between brands, but these have more than impressed me so far and I don't know how I managed without them for so long.The colors are rich and vibrant, managed easily on paper, blend out smoothly and beautifully, possess exceptional opaque coverage properties, work perfectly alongside liquid and tube watercolors, and although these tubes are somewhat small they go a LONG way! Seriously. So far only a small dot has been more than enough for me, I've added a picture of some colors I've used as an example. The brushes are for size reference and are sable rounds #1-5 from left to right.I've also included a color swatch image so you can see how each paint looks on paper and blended out, they're also in the same left-to-right order as the tubes in the image.The other picture is an in-progress painting that Im using this Holbein gouache set on, along with watercolors of varying brands, so you can get an idea of how they mesh with other paint.I just can't say enough about how awesome these are! I'm so pumped to sit down and paint with them that they've actually kept me from slipping down into a miserable art slump that I was teetering on the verge of. So thank you Holbein, you were my only hope!

You honestly can't beat Holbein. Bright, vibrant colors with no oily residue or mess. Chalky, but not sticky. Water reacts to it beautifully, and I have splotches in my old palletes that are 4 years old that still activate just like new. This set is a nice inexpensive option-- a little on the small side though. The tubes are about the size and thickness of your pinkie, maybe a little less. I almost went through the white tube in one night, haha. But other than that? Great product. No complaints. Great for beginners/experimenters, if you're a pro the designer set has less colors but bigger tubes.

Holbein makes good paint, these are well made and vibrant.

Now I knew these tubes would be small, but when they arrived and I opened the box I was astounded. Yes these tubes are tiny compared to standard gouache tube size and yet they are strangely cute. My five star review comes from the fact that because of the size, they are versatile for a certain group of painters. For Plein Air painting and Urban Sketching I would say the size is ideal when you want to travel super light. For people just learning about the medium, it's a great test set. It will also give me an idea how Holbein Gouache colors compare to other brands. Because of the tiny size, I am going to be able to tuck the white into my handbag sketching kit, and maybe a few other colors as well. If I am going to paint somewhere with my Plein Air kit that requires a color not normally on my palette, I can just pull from this set and not worry about space.I would say that if you paint a 4x6 painting with a limited palette of 3 colors plus white, you might be able to get roughly 4-6 paintings out of each tube if you don't waste paint by letting it dry out. You can also reconstitute gouache, but it will unlikely ever have the creamy body as when it's squeezed fresh from the tube. This is a rough estimate based on painting thin to thick.

Nice paints but I guess I didnt read the quantity you actually get - incredibly small amount. These aren't even your standard watercolor tubes. My mistake. Just understand that this is a small amount of paint.

Holbein’s gouache paints are the industry staple for good reason. They do the job and they do it well. Mix great, wonderfully opaque and respond to your painting whims amazingly! And though gouache purists may scoff at it, it works just as well dry. It does crumble a bit on the pallette but the color payoff is still there. Worth every penny!

Great set. Holbein Gouache is extremely opaque so you need very little and can water it down and still get really opaque color. This will last me a long time because of that. My other set is Winsor and Newton and these are just as good and some colors are more opaque than Winsor and Newton. I really love those two brands but yes they are extremely expensive. These you can make last a longtime though.I have cheap gouache and one tube will last me two paintings. One tube of this will last me 20 paintings or longer because the opacity is so high. I can also water them down and still get really high opacity.

息子の高校美術で使用するために購入。中学美術の教師だった亡き祖父に力を分けてもらいたかったと祈りながら、息子に何らかの継承になればと祈りながら、不透明水彩絵の具について、授業準備で基礎知識を調べているうちに、母親の私自身が様々な内容や単元へ次々と興味がわき出した、想い出の製品。色彩は生命を司り、無彩色は死へ向かう世界を表わすと感じるようになったのは、うつを患うことが重なったことを経てからで、鬱症状が回復すると、世界に色彩が戻ってくる感覚がするからです。銀座のシャネル・ネクサス・ホールで開催されている、光華を放つｶｰﾙ・ﾗｶﾞｰﾌｪﾙﾄﾞ写真展Karl Lagerfeld Photo Exhibition「太陽の宮殿　ヴェルサイユの光と影　VERSAILLES A L'OMBRE DU SOLEIL」を観覧して、全てモノクロに若干セピア色のベールが重ねてあるかに見える微妙な色調の作品は、写真家の意図とは無関係でも、恐らくルイ16世の家族が宮殿を追われる時に見た情景ではなかったかと、私自身は思惟しながらの鑑賞でした。美術の授業では、基本色を混ぜて色を作って自分の表現したい色で彩色していくことを学ぶけれども、子どもには、出来るだけ多数の色彩を見せて、生命の豊穣と喜びを感じてもらいたいと存じます。品質が安定していて、授業の課題ではとても使いやすく、不透明色彩絵の具の特性のひとつ、重ねて塗ることにより、深みを増す美しさがあり、描くことで、美術の基礎に関心が引き出されていった逸品でした。

Muy bueno, me gusta mucho la gama de colores, el tamaño del tubo es más pequeño de lo que imaginaba, pero es perfecto para transportarlo

妻が最近水彩画をしきりに書いているーーー、それも急速に上達。不透明が欲しいなとのつぶやきを聞いて注文しました。妻は非常に満足しています、贈り物のせい若干あるかもしれませんが。

学校の美術の授業で使用しています。内容量は少ないですが、普通に使えます
