Affordable and Effective
Some backstory from a network and telecommunications engineer:I am a network engineer at a campus consisting of several buildings. We rely heavily on single-mode fiber for our data and telephony infrastructure. We use CommScope/SYSTIMAX fiber cabling, which was rigorously tested by our installer, and worked with 1-Gig Cisco Long Haul transceivers (GBICs/SFPs). We never had any issues using 1-Gig connectivity. However, we began noticing packet loss and interface errors when we upgraded to 10-Gig Cisco Long Haul transceivers a few years ago.We tried different jumpers and transceivers but still encountered errors. A vendor recommended a fiber cleaning pen a $50-dollar fiber cleaning pen that surprisingly cleaned the female LC ports, but only lasted for 100 cleanings before it was no longer useable. CommScope explained that the testing conducted on installation was likely passable for 1-Gig traffic, but dust, debris, and other imperfections will severely impede 10-Gig traffic which is not as forgiving. The real world test and review:Duogalia Fiber Cleaner is an inexpensive and effective option for cleaning your LC terminals and jumpers. The cleaner is simple to use – you remove the entire plastic cap, gently insert it into an LC terminal, and apply a little push to clean the terminal. Two to three clicks are usually needed. You can clean an LC jumper my simply only removing the foremost plastic tip, inserting it over the LC’s jumpers ferrule (white pointy thing), and giving it two to three gentle pushes. There’s an indicator on the side that changes colors to show when your fiber cleaner is no longer useable. The Duogalia fiber pen was successful in cleaning a dusty terminal and allowed us to bring up a 10-Gig Long Haul transceiver that previously failed to come up. I unfortunately do not have the special microscope that can actually inspect the glass inside the terminal for imperfections and obstructions. Running a “show interface transceiver detail” on the distribution switch however shows the cleaned connections are within -3.6 Optical Send/Receive Power, which is more than acceptable. -14db would indicate dirty or damaged fiber.I’d strongly recommend this product for anyone who does work with fiber optics. For network engineers who manage switches and routers, or even system admins who manage fiber transceivers for high-speed servers. This is an affordable, lightweight, and effective tool. This is a good tool to have in your arsenal for transitioning from 1-Gig to 10-Gig connectivity using old single mode fiber to avoid headaches.

I used these when I worked for a large telecom company and decided to try them out in my current endeavors. Can’t ask for much but my fiber ends are noticeably cleaner after using this. Even after cleaning with isopropyl, this increases light level even more. Easily breaks though, so the housing isn’t exactly top notch. Don’t be too aggressive and ensure you’re pushing down parallel to the connector or port

Excellent cleaner for SC connectors
I once worked as a network hardware admin and had to deal with a gamut of ST, SC and other oddball connectors.Recently, I got fiber internet to my house. Where the ISP installed the ONT (modem) and where I wanted it were not the same. I elected to get a fiber coupler and patch cable and relocate it. It's pollen season in the southeast and no matter how hard you try, you will get dust and crud in them. This tool did short work of cleaning the connectors on my ONT, the patch panel, the coupler, and and the cable ends. It was much easier than the old school swabs and isopropyl alcohol And no possible shedding. While I did not have an optical power meter in my home network toolkit, I detected a difference in light output and connector cleanliness with a plain red and white LED light sources. It clicked readily to the next segment of cleaning ribbon and the cap works fine. Remember, it's a consumable tool, so use as many clicks as needed to get things tidy.I think this an excellent consumable tool for the money.

Sturdy and well assembled. Operates smoothly.
This fiber connector and socket cleaner is well constructed. It doesn't feel cheap or low quality. I tried it on some old dead SFPs and fiber cables we had laying around. Ones which were used in a very dirty industrial area and all of which were noticeably dirty on visual inspection. The cleaning tool operates smoothly and doesn't require significant force to operate. It has a satisfying cachunk as it cycles through its action. After a couple uses of the tool each port and cable end were noticeably cleaner. Each press taking off progressively more grime. I didn't notice a big difference between the second and third press. Now I didn't shoot any light through them as they were old and not working or damaged cables and SFPs, but I have no doubt they would test out significantly improved were they still good. I can say the cleaning tool does just what it is supposed to do. It is well worth its price, especially if you have fiber which is used in very dirty environments. It is a very specific tool which if you need, you need, and this is a worthy choice for the job.

Works well, can be extended to reach into tight places. Works on fittings and cabes.
This can work on things like ports on equipment, patch panels, etc if remove the end cap, if remove the tip of the cap it works on the cable ends too. I tested on cables that had sat around for some time and appears to work as intended.

Great Little Cleaning Pen For Fiber Optics
This cleaning pen does a really good job. It’s super easy to use and doesn’t require alcohol. There is an internal spool of cleaning cloth that automatically advances as it rotates 180° on each push. The pressure used is limited by the click at the end of the cleaning process. It even has an extendable feature to reach hard to get to spots. It’s made from a good grade of plastic, although, I wouldn’t call it heavy-duty. It is disposable after 800+ cleanings.Amazon Vine sent this product to me for an honest unbiased review. Would I recommend it? Yes, this is definitely a handy device to have for cleaning the ends of your fiber optic cables and fittings.
