Not a single seed germinated. It was hard to believe that out of 50 seeds nothing sprouted. So I researched it and found that Elm trees require stratification....In horticulture, stratification is the process of treating stored or collected seed prior to sowing to simulate natural winter conditions that a seed must endure before germination. Some seed species undergo an embryonic dormancy phase, and generally will not sprout until this dormancy is broken. Here is a blurb I borrowed from another website. and wikipedia. [...]How To Start These Seeds:Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hoursStratification: Cold stratify for 90 daysGermination: Sow seed 1/16 inch deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed. Prevent seed from becoming too wet.I am going to try this again and follow this procedure before planting. I read that elm seeds need to be stratified.Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
