It can be. It’s got more features and playability than the origins castle but it still looks really good just sitting on your shelf.

Q: Would a 9 year old boy still play with this set?

It is a very fun and playable set to go with the He-Man figures. Lights and sounds are also pretty fun. If they are in to the 5 1/2" figures they will enjoy this play set.
