A few years back we did some remodeling on our place in the city. We placed cut into ceilings and installed recessed lighting in the bathrooms and a few other places. We replaced the exhaust fans in the baths too with quiet, but high CFM models. We replaced our old poorly sealed windows with efficient and airtight new windows. We properly sealed the kitchen fan and (electric) clothes dryer exhausts too. Our place got 10 to 20 times as dusty instantly. What was happening was: a) We were creating a vacuum inside the place. And b) with so much sealed up to prevent outside (fresh) air from coming in, we were pulling air into the home from the insides of the walls, which if you home is not brand spanking new, includes a gazillion decomposing insects, and insulation that breaks down over time as well. We changed type recessed lighting to sealed, sealed as many openings to interior walls, and actually "un" weather-sealed the place in a couple of places so that fresh, rather than wall space air, was drawn in by any exhaust fans running. This dramatically reduced dust, but we still had some. We got some honeywell filters which helped, but we also switched over to high MERV or FPR in the central heating and A/C, which made the house less dusty than it was new. There is one very important caveat though. High FPR/MERV filters like this in your central air/heat system need to be changed at four to six weeks in summer and winter without fail. If you do not they will make your HVAC work harder and fan and possibly expensive condenser, fail sooner. Why? Because the the primary function of the filter in your HVAC is to protect your AC. A high FPR or MERV filter already has a higher resistance to air flow, as it captures more dust and particulate it resists airflow more. The fan works harder, and also since these things are not perfectly sealed, more air just bypasses the filter carrying bigger particulate into your condenser coils, which in turn get more inefficient (and cost you more in electricity) and that junk in your coils will freeze in summer and potentially crack your condenser. So by all means use a high Merv filter like these, but make sure to change them. When installing one, mark your calendar to swap them out in four weeks in summer and winter, and ix weeks in fall and spring. Ok, now onto these filters in particular: These arrived well packed and undamaged. That is important since any damage makes a filter work less well. At seven filters, these are less than ten beans each, which is less than the orange big box for merv 13 or its equivalent, FPR10. A seven pack is good as that is about a year. Dimensions are true to stated size. Construction looks good, with input side fully exposed to airflow, and output side well supported. I have no way of assessing accuracy of stated Merv rating but media looks good and there definitely is an is an electrostatic charge.

We ordered these BNX TrueFilter furnace air filters because they are of the highest quality. Some in our family suffer from allergies and asthma, and up till now we were buying another brand that they sell at Costco which were equivalent to MERV 11 in terms of their performance. Upon doing some research, we learned that we could go as high as MERV 13 in a residential application without risk of a reduction in airflow. That right there was great news as it is now springtime and we need all the help we can get keeping the air in our house pollen-free. What really motivated us to look around was something so innocent... early Saturday morning while we were waking up the sun happened to be shining directly into our bedroom. The angle of the sun caused us to be able to see all the tiny dust motes floating in the air. It was almost hypnotic and very beautiful to see, until we came to the realization that we were seeing what was going into our lungs with each breath. That made us question just how effective our current furnace filter was, and we wondered if we could do better. So now we have a good supply of premium MERV-13 furnace filters and we couldn't be happier. The BNX filter is an exact fit and they do look well made too. A+

I was going into the big box store and buying a box of air filters for your furnace/central air unit. I thought they were doing a good job. Then I had a roommate move in who had a really bad case of allergies. I gave him a single room filtration unit that had Hepa filtration etc. and I noticed after about a months’ worth of use that even the pre-filter was loaded with dust. Obviously, the cheapy filters weren't doing the job. I have hanging ceiling are filtration in my basement woodworking shop, and the premium filters capture over 90% of dust down to 5 microns. Unfortunately, the government has posted a warning that airborne wood dust is a carcinogen, and the culprit are the particles less than 5 microns in size. So, in the heat of battle I have a 3M carbon-based mask on which even captures the odor out of the air. This filtration system captures 93% of particles down to 3 which is even better than the most expensive filters in my shop. I have never had problems with allergies, although I do use a filtration system unit in my bedroom during the winter. The real cost savings of using a good filter, especially an electrostatically charged one is in the long run it saves you from expensive duct cleaning to a certain degree. Technically, a heavy-duty electrostatic filtration system is one that charges the particles passing through it with let's say a positive charge, and then when passing through the second filter/grate the negative charged plate draws them magnetically to its surface. I could see how charging the filter itself with whichever is the opposite of what particles are charged with by default would be an effective way of producing a superior filter. These go a step above anything else I have tried, yet don't seem to impede air flow.

Your HVAC system is one of the most expensive appliances in your house. One thing you need to do to protect the investment in the system is to change the filters regularly with a good quality filter. This will also improve the air quality in your home. The BNX MERV 13 Air Filter 3 Pack is a very economical way to get high quality filters. MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values) 13 is a high quality rating. At approximately $13/filter, this is a great bargain compared to the local big box home supply store for a similar rating. I have the 14” X 25” X 1” and it fits perfectly. There is an air flow indicator, advising the proper way to install the filter. It is easy to install, just place in the return air grill slot and close the door. Be sure to mark the date of installation or the change date – should last 90 days unless you have an exceptionally dusty environment. These filters do a great job of filtering the dust, dust mites, pollen, lint and other air borne particles. Great filters and a great price.
