Great guidebook
I went to Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, and wanted to get a good guidebook on this whole region, and got this one. It worked out well for me and had lots of good info on the areas I visited with the tour group. I like the way Rick Steves explains things, and he gives a good explanation of history, art, people, culture, religion, etc., of the places you visit, which I like. The other guidebooks I looked at seem not as complete.

Best guides around
You absolutely cannot go wrong with a Rick Steves guide. I wish he made them for other non-European countries.

Great Advice for Travelers
I will be going on a trip to Slovakia and the Czech Republic in the spring and purchased this book after getting Rick Steve's book about Prague. The Eastern Europe book is the only one he's written that includes Slovakia. I was very impressed with the Prague book and Rick didn't let me down with this one either. He includes detailed common sense advice about everything a traveler needs to know such as tipping, packing, where to stay, what to see, etc. I will use his books in the future for other trips!

Gain background info +maps+ agenda for travel in Eastern Europe.
Planning a solo spring 2020 trip to Eastern Europe so RS gave me some good tips. The best features: **maps/ walking tour of cities/ Eastern Europe at a Glance using symbols to show MUST SEE/ IF TIME. I will remove sections for cities I plan to visit to save on space since the guide has 1,000 paper thin pages!

Best Book on Traveling in Europe
This book was extremely helpful, as its contents are very accurate as my college-age daughter planned a trip to Europe with her boyfriend. It contains a great level of detail and my daughter actually took it with her, and found it to be very valuable and worthwhile for her trip. Rick's books are a great resource, and I would definitely buy them again when the need arises!!! Happy traveling, but only with Rick's books !!!

Makes travel easier and smarter
We have relied on Rick Steves' books since first visiting Europe in 2006. His books have been hugely informative and filled with practical advice. Cannot recommend them highly enough. The only downside is obvious when you go to one of the restaurants he recommends you notice everyone else has a Rick Steves book as well. So it also pays to be adventurous and try places not mentioned in his books. BUT, I would never travel without his book - period!

Reliable recommendations
Steves' suggestions are excellent. We relied on his suggestions for private drivers two weeks ago in Medjugorje, Mostar and Sarajevo. Both firms/drivers were outstanding.Ten or so days ago, we went from Kraków, Poland to Wadowice, Poland to visit the birthplace and home of Karol Józef Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II. Attended Sunday service in his adjacent parish church. And enjoyed the Pope's favorite cream cake and coffee in a nearby cafe. His family apartment is now an extraordinary multimedia museum. Two weeks ago, in Mostar, Alma provided a first-hand account of their family's life over the past 40 years. Her husband, Ermin, drove us north from Mostar through the incredibly beautiful river valley between high mountain ranges to the Sarajevo Airport. We also relied on Steves' recommendations for restaurants in Mostar, Kraków and Warsaw.

Booked summer 2019 Budapest, Vienna, Prague vacation using Rick's book
Usual top quality guide mixing itinerary for 1 day or multiple days, airport and train station hints, ranking of sites, suggested walking routes, historic perspective and much more. Sections outlining day trips from major cities helped us decide which side ventures offer the most value. Fourth European family vacation where we used Rick Steve's book and video as a planning reference.
