Very clear and informative
I have been trying to find a book on barbell/dumbbell training that is useful and relevant for women. Having bought several that were useless waffle, I hesitated to buy another which would go straight to the charity shop. So glad I took a chance on this one. It is has clear illustrations and detailed descriptions of what to do and common issues to avoid. Illustrations show both women and men and the (very useful) text takes for granted that all will participate.Recommended.

the book I was looking for
Really good book for beginners I have learned a lot from this book and the techniques are really helpful and explained well I generally don’t leave reviews but I felt it as such a good book I have read it 3 times and will do again when I need to refresh on the exercise routines

Excellent
For anyone starting weight training at home this book really is excellent. Exercises well explained and suggested workouts get you started very quickly. I have three other books on this subject with more photos and descriptions but not nearly as useful as this one.

Brilliant! Easy to read with lots of great information.
I've read most of Jim's books, and have found them all really informative, easy to read and encouraging. I've trained for many years, but have the occasional blip where I don't go for weeks or sometimes months, in which time I lose my confidence and doubt my ability. At these times I pick up books like this one, read it and am able to put a training plan together with elevates my worries and gets me back into a routine. I like the fact if the gym is busy I can just grab a couple of dumbells, find a quiet corner and still be able to have a great workout.

Perfect For Beginners Like Me!!!
As a beginner with no clear path, this book was an excellent start for me. Good exercises with steps, tips, and tricks that are very helpful.

Awesome reference and guide for using the barbell and dumbbell. Save those bucks on expensive trainers and refer this guide instead

Good workout info for beginners and possibly trainers who have reached a plateau in their training
The book is written in an “easy to follow” style and has workout routines to follow along with descriptions of each exercise mentioned. Although you can follow these routines directly, it does push you to create your own routine that works for you. There’s a fair bit of guidance on how to do this too.

Another Great Book from Jim
I really enjoy Jim's writing style and instruction. This book comes out at the same time that I was looking at getting into dumbbells at home. Not knowing what I was doing, I was paralyzed by the options out there and wound up not getting anything. Then I get word that this book was published so I picked it up. It is EXACTLY what I needed. Jim puts things in terms and instructions that even I, a complete noob, can understand and follow. If this is your first book by him, check out his others. I started with his motivation book and was hooked. Thanks again, Jim!
