reading 3.5" floppies works great under linux mint 17
reading 3.5" floppies works exactly as one would expect under linux Mint 17.1 rebecca with the minor exception that it did not mount the floppy in these steps: laptop up and running, plug in fdd, insert floppy. i tried it again with the floppy in the drive before plugging in the usb, perfect. afterward, ejecting the floppy and inserting a new one did exactly what it was supposed to do WRT reading - see below for my writing test.it may be that manually mounting in the fail case would have gotten it working, but after it started working, there were no problems whatsoever (well, apart from several 25-year-old files not being readable :) - manually mounting should be as simple as "mount /dev/sdb /media/xxx" (assuming "b" is your next sd device and the mount point is /media/xxx). even before the second plug-in, the device was visible using "lsusb" and showed up asBus 005 Device 003: ID 057b:0000 Y-E Data, Inc. FlashBuster-U Floppyafter mounting, "mount" shows (among other things)/dev/sdb on /media/xxx type vfat (rw)fatlabel responds with (in my test case) "Aa".i used it only on 1.44M (MF2HD DSDD) and some 3M DSHD 2.0Mb floppies under linuxMint 17.1 on an hp/compaq 6910. it operated very quietly and did not even get warm, even after several hours of use. even tho mounted rw, i could not write to a floppy simply using"ls > /media/xxx/writetest" - it was reported as "Read-only file system" with the the write-protect tab in either position (as root) - i only tried this briefly and did not investigate further. it may be that using dosfstools would work. my guess is the write issue is s/w, not the drive - YMMV.the "user manual" is little more than a tri-fold bit of driver installation info for windoze systerms. it lists a driver cd in the manifest, but there is no cd - only the manual and the drive (with attached cable) are included.j

floppy disk
I never knew I will ever have to use this floppy drive again as I thought it is no longer in use until I needed to access some information in a floppy disk. Off to amazon I went and ordered this portable floppy drive. I am very happy with the purchase. I have been able to access all the data and transferred it to my hard drive. I will keep this device as one never know when it will be needed again. It comes in a very compact size it is powered up by the usb cord. So you do not need any additional power source

Not all my computers could find it.
I've plugged this into 2 different computers running Windows 10. Neither computer recognized it. I checked the instructions that came with it, they said to load the drivers from the provided disc. No disc was provided. A waste of money.UPDATE. I'm updating this because on the 3rd computer I plugged it into IT WORKED. If it hadn't been for the first 2 computers not working with it (I don't know why - they are all running Windows 10) I'd give it 5 stars because it works perfectly on computer 3. Like others have said, it is a little slow, but I don't have a problem with that. All my old photos and files have been safely transferred so this drive has done exactly what I wanted it to do.

I have reached out to AMAZON for other hard-to-find items and - as in this case - the outcome has been great; you have come through
\o/ WooHooo BETTY!!!!!!Although using and enjoying numerous computers, I was still somewhat skeptical as to whether or not I would ever be able to retrieve numerous treasured documents long ago stored on floppy disks. A helpful salesperson directed me to AMAZON. In the past, I have reached out to AMAZON for other hard-to-find items and - as in this case - the outcome has been great; you have come through. I AM SO VERY PLEASED with these items. Both anxious and dreading,, I plugged the first one into the USB Ports; Nothing else needed. These little guys arrived ready to go to work!. Only thing they required: "Where's the floppy?" Without any problem whatsoever, I am able, once again, to retrieve ALL of The files I thought were lost. THANKS AGAIN AMAZON. As my neighbor puts it:"Ya done us proud."

... 7 (which I have) was not one of the recommended Operating Systems in your User Manual pamphlet
Was worried because Windows 7 (which I have) was not one of the recommended Operating Systems in your User Manual pamphlet. Was also worried because the program I wrote years ago was lost when a previous computer got destroyed! Plugged in your USB Protable Diskette Drive and it worked. Inserted several old 3.5" floopys, printed programs I wrote back in the '90's, used Microsoft Word for a "hard copy" of scripts and saved the files as Windows 7 files for future updating as a real estate system. Good product! Thanks. Ted Simon, Real Estate Broker and PE, Houston, TX.

External floppy disk
My old pc recently bit the dust. My newer pc did not come with a 3.5 floppy drive and since I still have some information stored on a floppy disk. I knew it is time to transfer it to my newer pc. To do so I need a floppy drive. This is floppy drive works exactly as described. It is very compact and light weight and can even fit in your pocket. It took me about two hours to transfer all the information I have in floppy disk into my new pc. I recommend this product.

Ultra Slim External Portable Floppy Disk Drive.
My Ultra Slim External Portable Floppy Disk Drive is working great. At first when I red the instructions Operating Systems Supportedcan be used with Microsoft Windows: 98/98SE, 2000 Professional, ME, and XP. I was worry because it did not mention any thing about Window 10. I stayed it any way and it worked great. (I would change the instruction wording to also Window 10.
