Awesome butcher block oil
After much research on butcher block finishes/oils, -pros and cons, we decided to use the Boca oil.Our 4’x6’ acacia wood top(made from 2 regular counter width pieces from a big orange box store) is used as dining and work surface in our kitchen. Due to the very high density of the wood we opted to do a 120 grit sanding before the first application versus the 220 recommended. Followed the instructions otherwise. Finish is fast drying compared to other types of oil and has very low odor.Applied a second coat, sanding with 180 grit sandpaper before wiping down thoroughly . Repeated with a third coat using 220 grit before wiping off. Left to dry about 24 hours then wiped on a thin coat of oil and buffed it vigorously with a soft cloth. Beautiful smooth satin finish. Left to dry 24 hours before gently using. Hard water resistant finish after about a week. The Boca oil leaves the wood feeling natural, unlike varnishes that coats the top of the wood.As a precaution we did follow up with a wipe-on buffing after about 2 month since the butcher block is brand new. As any butcher block it’ll need follow up care about once a year, maybe sooner if used a lot. With this oil any follow up treatment is very easy. We just thoroughly washed the worktop, let it dry then oiled. As a reference, I have a chef background and am working in this kitchen every meal ever day. This finish is holding up beautifully despite the heavy daily use. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone wanting a natural nontoxic finish.

Low VOC
This oil is a bit overpriced but is low VOC and is easy to apply and clean up. I applied it to an island top and a dining table top made of reclaimed Fir beams. Overall I am pretty happy with it. The finish produces a low sheen so if you looking for glossy this isn’t for you. I haven’t yet used either top so I don’t know how it will hold up to spills/stains. It seems to have soaked in well and sealed the surface. Time will tell.
