Q: as should be dissolved for not using direct powder to food?

I do not use it directly on food. I've been adding it in any brine or marinade, similar to using "Liquid Smoke".

Q: I want to use this in a sauce that requires liquid smoke. How much should I use for the equivalent of 1 tbsp of liquid smoke?

I've never used it in a sauce, just a rub only. I just sprinkle to taste . Don't over do it or it will have a bitter taste. I'd try no more that a single TSP.

Q: Would the ingredients be equal to the following: malto-dextrin and natural hickory smoke? i'm wondering if the 'smoke flavor' is natural.

Malto-dextrin is basically an anti caking agent and "natural hickory smoke" ??? all I know is that the smoke flavor is very authentic and tastes like natural smoke from a smoker. We do competition BBQ and catering we use this product in our rub, be careful a little goes a long way.
