Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Dubbins for all Doc boots
I have used Dubbins for over 15 years for all my Doc's. Black, Brown, doesn't matter. Dubbins keeps the leather subtle and water resistant. For the steel toe Doc's, when they get hit on the toe cap, the leather simply "gives way" and does not rip. I use this on my Doc industrial Ironbridge Black boots with the internal D03 Met Guard as well as my slip on Doc Industrial Icon Steel Toe Gaucho Boots. It does turn the brown a little darker, but that fades within a day or so. I have always used Dubbins for all my Docs, even on my little toddlers brown cowboy boots. Protect your leather and it will last a lifetime. You just spent $120+ on a pair of quality boots, buy the leather care product and take care of your investment. This is not a shine product, it is meant to keep the leather soft and protected.

Using this wax for over 10 years - great for protecting and shining leather
I use this on my Dr Martins to keep them shiny and protected. I find this is the best wax on the market and glad I can still buy it. I use it on all of my leather shoes even ones that are not Dr Martins. Trick is to rub it in with brush applicator, then rub with a cloth and then use a little water on a paper towel to finish it off. It's made old shoes look new and is a must have when it is raining out and you are not going to be wearing rain boots.Do not use on suede unless you want it too no longer look like suede

Not a shoe, but still good polish.
This product is not a shoe. The review questions were really quite silly. That said, I do like the polish. My shoes darkened considerably with one application, and even more with the second, and the color has become very rich and deep and quite beautiful.

Dubbin is awesome.
Dubbin is great stuff for leather. It's clear, so it is good to use on painted leather. I am using it on my boots, which have red/orange flames and to reseal my pained leather jacket.

Get This for your Dr. Martens
Gets my Dr. Martens looking like new! Takes out day-to-day scratches... Note: for more serious ones, tried leaving product on longer. Got the color back but still can be seen. Overall very pleased!

For super supple and dapper Docs
A great addition to keeping your footwear looking great and lasting longer. As a long time DM wearer with wide feet I have found my DMs usually spilt along the outer toe creases of the boot. Having been using this dubbin to nourish the leather (not just using polish) my boots are supple and wearing well with no splitting. I'm delighted and can highly recommend using this on all your leather shoes and boots (not nubuck or suede though!)

Get it
I have a pair of older boots I'd not worn for a while. They'd got stiff and after rubbing/brushing this in made a huge difference.Although already waterproof, now they even better protected and now supple again. It will change the colour of your brown shoes/boots to a nice dark reddish brown colour, so long as you not worried about this ---- get this
