It really stunk when it arrived. I don't know what the put on the leather, but I used saddle soap to get rid of the odor. It will be find for carry on, but it is thin. I am not sure how it will hold up ion the luggage hole. I have a leather one that is larger, It sides are much thicker and it has held up well during travel. I bought this one because I wanted a small bag. Time will tell if i made a wise purchase

I can fit 5 days of clothes a pair of flats and small hair dryer in the pack pack, the light color one. I liked it so much I picked up the duffle bag.
