nice overview
He does a decent job giving the necessary aspects of gardening. Lots of history and specifics to distinct cultivars. Lots of ideas on uses of garlic.

Its ok but not very well written. Not a lot of info book is all over the place.
Sorry I bought this book. Even bought 1 for a gift that i will not give.It a ok book . But it sure does not tell you much. Like when to harvest he just tells you when leaves start to yellow. Never gives you a count on leaves. I grow garlic and there is more to it than just yellow leaves. Does not even talks about garlic scapes when to cut them this is not a book for the beginner. If your looking for the right book then buy Growing Great Garlic by Ron l. England this is the right book to read.

Don't bother
This self-published book reads like a blog post: it's full of questionable information, is looping and repetitive, and is full of grammatical errors and typos. Example: he doesn't say where his garden is (although it seems somewhere in the UK) and he says garlic is usually planted on Dec 21st. What?? Maybe where he lives but almost certainly not correct for almost all readers. He also doesn't seem to like garlic much, repeatedly saying you shouldn't eat it raw because your breath will smell, and saying that a few cloves will produce enough garlic bulbs to last you a year. Just a complete waste of time and money.

Good but not complete enough re: Garlic
Overall I found this book disappointing and lacking content. As a matter of fact I would call it the Incomplete guide to growing, harvesting and using Garlic. First, I disagree that Fall Planted Garlic should be watered. In heavy clay based soils it will rot. The book comes up short on covering the subjects of Allicin and which Garlics are high in it. Example: Romanian Red has the highest content of any Garlic type which would be beneficial for health but it isn't mentioned. Brix ratings for various types of Garlic are not mentioned (high Brix ratings for Garlic mean you have a sweet roasting Garlic). For that matter the subject of what types of Garlic would be desirable to grow is for the most part completely ignored. For example: Metechi Garlic is the hottest spiciest Garlic that can be grown. The Author names a number of Soft neck Garlic varieties but none of the Hard neck types. It's like he is of the opinion he thinks he should tell people "This is how you should grow Garlic but you figure out for yourself what kind of Garlic you might want to grow for yourself to suit your tastes". There is good information regarding this at AllicinsRanch.com for those interested in that. Further there are a couple of glaring errors in this book. For example on Page 30 the Author describes a recipe for Pickling Garlic with Red / White Wine Vinegar where the recipe calls for pickling 3 whole Garlic Cloves (I suspect he meant 3 whole heads of Garlic). There is good information in this book but it is far from being a "Go To" Book to get truly knowledgeable about Garlic for people who are enthusiastic about Garlic.
