Bought for indoor use. VERY easy to install. Impressed with the cable size. Was easy to connect once installed. However, it says it is rated for 35 lbs. We installed it to about 75% of the max length. We draped over a damp quilt--approx. 10 lbs or so. After about 20 seconds, the cable came loose and it was on the floor. The small end that you pull to connect to the other end had the cable come loose. It appears to be poor design. The cable looks like it was simply glued into the plastic end and just pulled loose. There was not a loop or anything more to attempt to secure it. There is no way that the glue is enough to hold it in there. Nice try--but poor design means zero functionality.

I had kind of a unique need for this -- I'm a photographer and wanted something I could hang curtains from temporarily for silhouette shots in my studio. So it was important to me that the line be taut and able to hold the curtains from without sagging too much. This unit did the trick — sags a little but not too much, and the construction of the wall plates and strength of the steel cable were just what I was hoping for. Installation wasn't too difficult, and the included hardware was perfect. The biggest challenge was simply making sure the cable was going to be perfectly level when I was finished, which is not something most people using this have to really worry about. Now i have an easy, quick ability to set up that kind of shot. Best of all, when not in use, you don't notice it because the wall plates are simple and elegant. All around very happy with this purchase.

He personally thanked me after my purchase and then wrote to make sure I received the product and am pleased with it. I love the features of this line and that’s why I ordered it. But the excellent way in which the owner kept involved in my purchase earns this a 5 star. For anyone interested in a retractable clothesline, I highly recommend this company.

The media could not be loaded.  I really wanted this to work. The problem is that when I set the brake the amount of slack in the clothes line increased by over 1/4 inch. All of our hangers went to the low point in the middle. I tried contacting the vendor who sent me a pdf that did not address the issue. I've taken the device down and will be returning it. I've already ordered a replacement from another vendor. I wanted to be certain that it was the device. The video shows how even though nothing is attached the line slacks when the locking mechanism is engaged. You can even see the large gear turn slightly as the lock is applied.Quick update: They sent me a link to a video that shows a solution of sorts. The video suggests that every time we set up the clothes line that we remove the cover and grab their large gear, release the brake and turn the gear, resetting the brake when the tension is increased. I don't see that as a good long term solution. The sprockets on the gear aren't exactly comfortable to grab. A better design might add tension rather than reduce it when the locking mechanism is applied. I realize that for many people this device might work as is, just not for us. We have a short run (About 68 inches) and will be only using the clothes line a couple of times per week. I've used retractable clothes lines in the past and I don't recall having an issue with tension when the line length is locked down.
