This is a foundational book
As has often been observed, medical information is like electronics, out of date as soon as it is issued. This is profoundly true of the integrated and alternative medicine fields. The area is increasing in popularity as desperate people turn to what offers hope instead of years of suffering and symptom suppression and side effects.I bought this book despite the title, which sounds like something from the Nat'l Inq. Since it was published in 2002, I did not expect much. I ended up reading it cover to cover. The reason, of course, is that this is one of the early books that identified systemic inflammation and its causes and effects. I have a lot of books on inflammation, but none of them presents this simple baseline program for dealing with disease. They all have their places, but this and Phyllis Balch's Prescription for Nutritional Healing No. 4 will be the foundation of my personal research. I can add on things as they are developed, and glean the rest of my huge and growing library for specifics and new developments, now that there is a sturdy base.I might add that one of the things that impressed me was the author's conservative approach. At first, I kept asking myself why he did not touch on so many wonderful discoveries up to 2002, but then I realized that 1) he only advised what he as a very skeptical doctor felt comfortable with, and 2) because of that approach, I felt comfortable with what he did select. All of us know by now the tremendous financial drains of the so-called medical studies that must be produced for mainline medicine, the ease with which even these go off track, and the unremarkable fact that food-based supplements would cost as much as drugs if they were tested in the same manner. I can only hope that enlightened researchers will come up with less expensive and a lot more dependable study systems in future. The system we have lets powerful drugs pass until they kill a lot of people and have to be withdrawn, and allows a lot of just plain wisdom like this to be ignored or dismissed as irrelevant or punished. This may not be the latest book published, but it is a good fundamental program that has been built on by a lot of authors and doctors. It will stand the test of time. I am glad I bought this book, and I am giving it as a gift to friends. Basic reference.

A book by which we find the healthies ways in which to be cured from many sicknesses.
The book is printed in 2002, but I must say that it’s hard to that it would be different if it first was printed this year, this because the antioxidant advises nearly is up to date, and because unfortunately still most doctors still don’t understand the importance in natural antioxidants, but instead blindly only trusts drugs. Still we read that only 7 % of doctors learn about vitamins and minerals, and that doctors tend to look at nutrients as being drugs.Even though I own around 300 doctors and health books I still by this book found important information. Especially I now see how helpful, and important, the Grape seed extract is in many sickness cases, besides by increasing the results from the vitamins and minerals. And when I then looked in my other books after Grape seed extract I found that I had forgotten what I earlier there had read as I nearly found nothing about it. And actually I’m going to buy Grape seed extract, to see if it can help in solving some of the problems which my wife during some years has talked about. In the book is interesting to read that when Ray was studied medical then the cholesterol level less than 320 was considered being normal, while now it the has fallen to 200, but that this in reality being a misunderstanding about LDL, as LDL is very healthy except for part of it which might have been oxidized. So only seldom the problem is the total cholesterol number, but instead id there are some oxidized LDL; just like we have the oxidizing problem to watch for throughout the body.Among other it’s delightful in the book to read the many cases, as most of these being truly amazing. For example, in the diabetes chapter we read about Joe whose ratio triglyceride / HDL was 40, by the cholesterol measure, while not allowed being higher than 2, if preventing diabetes. And then by changing his lifestyle after just 12 weeks his triticale ratio already had been turned down to only 2.5.But by in the book reading about the doctor misbelief in nutritional medicine, I clearly recall my own battle with doctors here in Chiang Mai, during now 13 years, mostly concerning the way in which they blindly believe to cures cholesterol and cancer. For example, when I back in 2011 received the book by Cohen, Suzy, RPH.: “Drug Muggers: Which Medications are Robbing Your Body of Essential Nutrients”, I then discovered that the drug which a doctor had put me on against stress, not was good for persons eating banana, or rice, which I daily are getting. I shoved the book to the doctor, but it didn’t chance anything in the hospital, the drug continued in being giving to patients. And I also from the book Burt Berkson, MD, PhD.: “The Alpha Lipoic Acid Breakthrough”, recalled how he would have been fired, hadn’t it come to the news, after he 2 * 2 times had saved the life of patients, poisoned by fungi, because he used ALA, (Alpha linolenic acid), which the hospital didn’t know about.

Well Worth Reading
Ray Strand's "What You Doctor Doesn't Know . . . " is very helpful in explaining basic nutritional health issues we face today. He uses some helpful analogies as well as science, studies and charts to help explain how free radicals can cause cellular damage and what can be done to prevent or repair this damage. He explains why simply "eating right" is not enough to reverse damage that already exists. He even offers some basic guidelines for which supplements can aid in alleviating various illnesses (wish he included migraines). His personal story as a physician who could seemingly do nothing for his wife's debilitating illness and his journey of personal exploration into supplements is quite winning.
