A Nice Change From Canned Tuna
Smoked mackerel in a can—the things they think of. I'm always excited to try new things and this was certainly fun. When you open it, it looks a little unappetizing but it is tasty in the right applications. You can use it multiple ways: on some bread, over rice, or wherever your imagination takes you.It tastes like smokey fish, exactly as advertised. It was definitely interesting to try.

Sweet Hot Smoked Flavor Is Excellent
After trying the Korma Curry - which was delicious, I tried the Sweet Hot Smoked. These are hot smoked, meaning they are more firm and slightly more jerky like, although still moist and tender. They have an excellent flavor and texture, tastes like primo hot smoked salmon. I liked the Sweet Hot Smoked flavor better than the Juniper and Corriander flavor. The Pepper flavor of hot smoked is also good, but I think I like the Sweet one a little better. Its not too sweet, just a hint, the flavor of the fish comes through.

Stick with Ocean's smoked, peppered version! The Olive, Red Pepper version tastes bad.
I bought the olive and red pepper version because my go-to was sold out on Amazon - this version is nothing like that one, it has a strong fishy taste and no other flavor, and not in a pleasant way like with sardines (they don't even use olive oil). I'm going to throw the rest away unopened because no amount of lemon juice I add will save this.

Best tinned fish I’ve ever eaten!
Absolutely delicious! If you are new to canned fish this is a very beginner friendly variety. Actually has a smoky taste and so tastes a lot like fish jerky. This will be a repeat purchase.

Amazon won't replace damaged product
The product itself is great, 5 stars. Great taste and texture. Expensive in general, but not exorbitant. This is the most cost effective pack I've seen anywhere.I rated it 3 stars because when I received it, two of the cans had popped open in transit and leaked oil all over the other packages. I went to try and return and replace when I learned that this was not possible with this item. Which is dumb. They were packaged poorly, just in a box with no bubble wrap or extra padding to protect them from being jossled and damaged during transit. Which is exactly what happened.Ten of the cans are still usable, though the cardboard packaging was oil soaked and had to be tossed. So I'm not irate, 10 out of 12 isn't bad when apparently if all of them has been damaged I would have been SoL.So buyer beware, purchase at your own risk.

Gin & Tonic flavor by another name
These are delicious hot-smoked mackerel fillets that have a bit of a chew to them, not quite jerky-like but getting there, like they just came out of a smoker. Very nice! Flavor is woody & herbaceous. I think Ocean's brand is "Gold Seal" brand marketed to the USA, and if so then this flavor is the same as Gold Seal's "Gin & Tonic" flavor. (Note: :here is not any gin in these fish. More's the pity.)Highly recommend slathering a Wasa cracker with some cream cheese and putting one of these fillets (2 per can) on top, perfect light breakfast.

Salty, Small Pieces But Tasty
This is the first time I've tried smoked wild mackerel - I usually prefer smoked salmon. This container is comparable in size to a can of sardines. The mackerel is packed in sunflower oil (a neutral oil) so that you taste the fish rather than the oil. However, the pieces on the small side -just enough for one serving. To make it into a meal for two people, I'd recommend adding flour and eggs and turning it into fish cakes. I liked it but it's way too salty - I like the smoky flavor but it was a little chewy, not tender. Overall it's a decent "convenience" food but not something I'd want frequently. The cost is also prohibitive for the little you get, but it is "wild" versus "farmed" so you are paying for the presumably higher and healthier quality.
