I installed this in my 1985 Dolphin. The water heater name is American Appliance. The in/out are on the rear of the tank. There are no leaks in the bypass position with the pump on. The white Teflon tape is included, I had enough to wrap the anode rod as well. I wanted to save my anode rod is the main reason for installing this bypass. So I could use water system without using the water heater.

Overall, very usable design. Installation as simple as anything can be in the confined space of a boat. I did have an issue with threading the bypass hose onto the plastic tee. First attempt resulted in cross threading and I could not resolve it with further attempts. Resolved the problem with a trip to the hardware store and purchase of a brass tee. I believe that’s what should be included in the kit anyway. I understand price can be a factor, but the added durability is worth a bump in cost, IMO. Otherwise, I would give it 5 stars.

Winterizing the camper can be a challenge, however this makes the job a bit easier. I installed one in my camper last fall and was well pleased with the results. By closing off the water heater and blowing out the lines it safely prepped the water system for winter cold. I did however after clearing the lines, I pumped non-toxic antifreeze into the lines. The water heater has a drain to empty the water.

Very easy install, it works great. It did take three times of re-taping the connection between the check valave and tee to stop the drip, i have have seen other people online have the same issues. I think a compression fitting tee would eliminate that issue.

Easy to install. The product was of good quality. Now we can bypass the hot water heater when winterizing our camper and save on antifreeze. Money well spent!

Valve direction matters. I initially installed the 3-way valve in the wrong direction and the hot water tank slowly filled with water. I thought I had a bad valve. After thinking about this for a day, I carefully re-read the instructions. The instructions do say port A goes to the existing cold water. Not exactly crystal clear whether that means the tank or the water inlet, so I'm taking a point off for that. I flipped the valve around and everything works fine. I camp off grid mostly and don't use the hot water heater. Now I don't need to haul 5 gallons of unusable water up and down the road. I'm happy.

I had an old water heater in my 30 year old RV. Put this in last year. Saves a lot on antifreeze. Can't remember if I had to buy a few parts from the local hardware store to make it fit.
