Great for homeschooling
Added to our history study of Egypt. My little ones love using the hieroglyphs to write their names. Just an easy way to make history come to life.

Nice intro for kids
This book does a decent job of being both informative and entertaining. It's a little short, but my son enjoyed it nonetheless.

Simply excellent -- includes stencils!
*** I added a photo of a project my son completed using this book. -- check it out! ***This exciting book was fundamental to week 3 of our homeschool unit on ancient Egypt -- when we studied scribes, papyrus making, and hieroglyphs. The kids got toally carried away, writing each other coded notes and having a blast. We made homemade papyrus and used the stencil inside to write our translated Bible verses in beautiful hieroglyphs. This book is dynamite.

Directions are a little vague but a good starter book on the subject
I don't know why, but I had really high expectations for this book. However, the "directions" are pretty vague. Also, my book came completely trashed. It has rips all over it and was just in really bad condition for a new book. It MIGHT have been from shipping but even so, it should have probably been packaged better then! Even with the damage it was easy to read.I don't agree that it's really for "5 year olds", though. If there had been better directions in this book I would have easily given it 5 stars. However, they get away with not having to really give too many directions by saying "there is no right way." That's fine, but it's a little confusing. The stencil is a nice addition and mostly why I bought it. I have had a little experience with hieroglyphics over the years so perhaps I was expecting too much from this. My oldest kid had absolutely no interest in it right NOW but if they get into this subject later in school then they will probably love this book as an addition to my other hieroglyphics books. For the price, it's not too bad, though.

Outstanding
Great book about ancient Egypt and hieroglyphs!! Excellent illustrations. I used it for my ancient Egypt lesson in elementary. It sparked a lot of interest and children loved using the stencil to write their names in hieroglyphs. Very cool!

A good basic beginner's guide to hieroglyphs
A nice very colorful book to learn the basics of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Comes with a page-size plastic stencil to practice writing names and other words. I bought two, one for myself and one for my 12-year-old niece who expressed an interest in Egypt. The guide also has pictures of a few popular Egyptian deities, such as Osiris , Isis, Bastet, Set, Sobek, Horus, etc

Just right
This was a present for my 6 year old charge who is going through a mummy stage. She loves the stencils and the directions for writing names and cards. Easy to use. It’s only a few pages & a stencil page so don’t expect a full size book. I will buy it again.

Love the Stencils
I liked this book because of the stencils and for the hieroglyphics. I think it could have focused on that a little more and left some of the filler out. I would still recommend this book. My son had a blast drawing his name and using the stencils.
