A great collection of all the variant covers to DK III. If you like quality comic art by mega stars, you will want this book.

Batman: The Art of the Dark Knight was purchased by mistake but i never returned it because it is an interesting depiction of the Batman by one of the masters of the graphic arts.

Expectation was met

I absolutely hated DKIII: The Master Race. It blatantly disregarded the techo-totalitarian world-building of Dark Knight Strikes Again (still ahead of its time) in favor of being slavishly shackled to the retrograde vision of Dark Knight Returns. It actually ignored its own continuity several times, and had multiple drops in logic that left it obliterated upon critique. At its lowest, it was a betrayal of the Dark Knight franchise and nothing more than a cash-grab (people like me who bought it as it was coming out in single issues paid around $60 in total to be let down). But thankfully, another level of that cash-grab was a multitude of variant covers by the best artists in the Superhero industry. And thankfully, almost all of them decided to pay tribute to Dark Knight Returns. So we're gifted with this amazing art book collection that showcases jaw-dropping depictions of every iconic moment from Dark Knight Returns (and a few from DK2 and DK3). My favorites that are hereby burned into my mind forever are by Frank Quitely, Kevin Eastman, and Chris Burnham. But those are only 3 out of nearly 70 artists who present their visions. So if you collect art books and love Dark Knight Returns, this is a must-have.

This hardcover collects all the variant covers for The Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Having never read DK3 after being soured by its predecessor (The Dark Knight Strikes Again), I originally rented this digitally from my local library. Digital does not do this collection justice. Every cover is unique with specific styles that reference iconic moments/images from the first Dark Knight and translate them into that artist's take. If you enjoy comic book cover or poster books, I highly recommend this because of the sheer amount of Batman centered pieces.

The description for this book is a little misleading. It's not the DK3 Story + Covers, it's ONLY the covers.
