More Myself: A Journey

I LOVE Alicia Keys! Love, love, love, love, LOVE her, BUT even though she showed more vulnerability towards the end of the book I feel that she could have been a little bit more vulnerable at the very beginning. It’s almost like she’s still scared of being judged. Alicia did open up a little when discussing the relationship with her biological Father ‘Craig’ (as she personally referred to him), but I never got to really know the old Alicia (what she was like in school, who her friends in Hells Kitchen were or her choice of boyfriends).I wasn’t expecting a warts-and-all book, as I know that’s not who Alicia is and I know she’s guarded and at times very private, but it would have been nice to see why she made the choices she made when she was younger so we have an idea of who she is today. As the saying goes, you are who you are and you were who you were and you should be proud of both of those people.Alicia is very similar to myself (raised by a single Mother, having a love and appreciation for Hip-Hop, “Ghetto-Hippy” (as she brands the way she dresses), very simple person, shows a love and appreciation for art and this book just made me love her more as she inspired me in the choices I make with my life from here on.Love you Alicia. Like I’m 100, I will STILL be singing your songs and appreciating you for the incredible human being you are.

I love Alicia Keys music because her lyrics can be so deep and starring. Reading this book gave me an insight into what she puts into creating and developing those songs. As well as the things that are not in the spotlight like her charity work and that of working on ensuring her relationships both professional and personal are balanced. The book gives insight into her vulnerabilities and how she continues to work through them.It is an inspiring story and let's you know she is not done yet she has more to give to the world not just through her music but through the lives of those children and adults she touches as she goes through life.I would recommend this book to anyone and will be encouraging my teenage daughter to read it too.

This book is fantastic, I’m getting lost in it.Very easy to read and brings you closer to the artist. I’d highly recommend it.

I received the book without the cover of beautiful Alicia Keys photo, quite disappointing and was not informed that it was missing. Ruins the whole look and feel of the book!

I bought this book primarily for my 11 year old daughter who is an avid singer. I was looking for something to give her a realistic non fairy tale view of the music industry and what it takes to 'make it' in the music world. I read it myself first of all to ensure the content was suitable for her age and was not disappointed. The book is entertaining and inspiring extolling talent, passion, self belief and hard work as the primary elements of success. Later the book explores the responsibility she felt for putting her success to good use for others less fortunate in a very down to earth and relatable way. Alicia's life is portrayed simply and confidently and there is no mention of drugs, abuse, sex or anything one might not want their tween exposed to. Really great book enjoyed by both of us.

Interesting read

I've been reading Alicia Keys book, More Myself - A Journey.Always loved her music and when I was younger, she inspired me in some ways.But lately, she's been more holistic and in the past few years I've fallen for her again. So I bought her book through lockdown, and I'm slowly reading through it as it's easy to pick up and put down not because it doesn't engage, but because it engages on a level that requires self reflection, to truly digest. For myself anyway.So much resonates, and the raw honesty is beautiful.I don't leave reviews, but she deserves this at the very least, for writing so honestly.

A breath of fresh air, as Alicia highlights her journey throughout this autobiography. A spiritual journey that made me reflect on my life and the way I have and how I can grow to do more. I've always adored Alicia's songs but reading this book made me understand her artistry more. Have your phone ready with spotify to connect and reminisce and vibe as each chapter unfolds. An uplifting must read.
